Its a probability scale.

Its not an either or scenario.

Iginla may have 90% odds to play 80 games while Giordano is 50%.

It may be that Iginla is just lucky while Giordano is unlucky or there may be something to it.

Like I said before Jarome Igina is a lock. The guy simply never suffers significant injuries. Any player can suffer a freak injury but the majority of hockey injuries are not of the freak variety as they are groin, shoulder, concussion, knee that can be avoided by playing certain styles, being more fit, or simply having a more robust body as there are plenty of players that have bodies that can stand up to the abuse just as there are some players that have bodies that cannot. I would say any player that does not average over 70 games played per season should be considered injury prone.

Maybe my wording was not clear as it should be but it was meant along the lines that you should not expect 70+ games from Giordano because history has shown its a 50/50 proposition at best.

I believe genetics also plays a role in the overall health/longevity of a professional athlete. Some guys win that lottery, others just come very very close.
