Well that suck, but the Flames should be thinking long term about this.

Get mad at Gaudreau on Twitter or something.

If players don't want to buy into the system and undermine your authority, what better way than scratching them? Make them accountable for their actions. It's Hartley's job to keep the players in line.

I don't like the fact that they are scratched, but if something had to be done, I trust Bob enough to deal with them appropriately.

Nah, you use all the tools at your disposal and bag skating isn't as effective as you make it out to be.

So you bag skate them for 30 mins, they are in shape and will be tired for a little but nothing more.

Now they have to answer to the media, and to their teammates since they are now short handed because of it.

Add on top of it the fact that maybe they don't hit some performance bonuses if they miss some games.

I don't know why some of you are so pissed. I mean, haven't we been making fun of the Oilers for years because there is no sense of accountability on that team? That they just let the kids do what they want.

We don't want to be like them, do we?

I applaud teaching young players a lesson, and it takes a lot of balls to make this move if you're Hartley.

This will invite a lot of media scrutiny and unwanted attention though. Will be very interesting to see how they'll respond to this.

It's a ploy orchestrated by Treliving for some leverage in contract negotiations.

Well it's hard to say, if there have been ongoing issues or not, what's going on behind closed doors...

If it's just being late for practice once, there's got to be other ways to discipline guys instead of scratching them at a really key time in the season.

If there's a pattern of being late or nonchalant they should be benched. If it's the first time they've done this then I don't think it's worthy of being scratched.

Optional skate for him and Backlund. Both will be playing tonight

Because your enjoyment is more important then running a team properly. If I show up late to work hung over, you bet my ass would probably be sent home. Why is it any different with professional athletes.
Exactly. A move like this is how you make players accountable to the team. I am sure this was well thought out. It also shows that the team is first and no matter who you are you are held accountable. I think we laughed at the oilers for not cracking down on their wonder boys and now that it happened here some people are upset. I don't understand that.

Wow, this will be quite the public humiliation especially for the top players, Monahan and Gaudreau. Will be interesting to see how they respond.

Who knows what is going on in the Flames dressing room but would you get scratched for a first offense like this? I wouldn't think so.
