No big deal.. all LA has to do is terminate Lecavalier's contract at the airport!

Do Lecavalier and Schenn make the Kings better? Debatable in my mind.

So there is the replacement for Greene is injured I guess.

Big, slow, physical, right shooting bottom pair defenseman.

The amount of hope this gives me for moving a Wideman or an Engelland is great...

I think Schenn will do decent on the Kings since he will likely be sheltered. Playing on a strong team that can play good defence will probably benefit him. He's no Voynov but I think he can be Matt Greene.

This is tough to figure from LA's perspective.

The only way I can get it to make sense is if the Kings value Schenn a lot more than we all do. THey must see something in him, and are willing to give it a go while Greene is out.

I just don't see it personally. But good on Philly I guess.

On another note, this trade means Philly now has $10.8M tied up on bought out or dead contracts. That's more than Hamilton and Brodie cost, combined!

For a while I thought they got Brayden Schenn. This will only slow LA down

They may think Schenn still has Regehr type potential in a better situation.

Sutter may still be remembering the Lecavalier that beat us in the cup finals.

I don't see the point from LA's perspective. Schenn is a bottom paying guy, so he provides depth. A 3rd seems fair for him. Why take on Lecavalier though? By all accounts he's got less than nothing left.

Vinny said he will retire at end of season if they traded him to a team that would let him play out the year.

So basically it's Weal + 3rd for Pending UFA Schenn @ $4.05M (less actual dollars at this point of the season) and Free Retiring 4th line center Vincent LeCavalier

Seems dumb no matter how you look at it.

More depth with no long term implications for a guy that's basically their version of Drew Shore and a 3rd?

Depth is only good when it's good players. Schenn for a 3rd is a stretch (I wouldn't do it) but I can see why one might. Taking Vinny even at 50% is stupid and pointless though.

Vinny isn't depth. He has less than zero gas left in the tank. He's a waste of a roster spot.

And now they have no cap space to get someone that's actually useful at the deadline.

That's the thing - VL isn't depth, he is simply opportunity cost on the little bit of cap space that they had to work with

I know Vinny is rich from his previously bought out contract but I'm surprised that he would walk away from the final 2 years of this contract. It's not like they were tack on years at 500K or something.

Does he want to play in the minors for that money? Cause that could be a likely place for him if he didn't want to retire. Not all millionaires want to ride buses in the minors for a few more million.

I guess when you look at the list of potential d-men rentals, Schenn isn't bad. Most of the decent ones are on playoff teams.

Him promising to retire was likely a condition of the trade. It was either that or stay scratched in Philly.

Says a little about his character.
