in a thread about babcock being a good coach, you pretty much said he's a bad coach.

Reimer and Sparks are both injured. So that argument is silly. Bernier would not be playing under different circumstances.

Tuna, last year you claimed Kessel was amazing cause he was a Leave. This year you want to use his sucky play to push your agenda.
Last year you claimed Leaves had amazing tenders, this year you want to use Bernier sucks to push your agenda.
Last year you claimed Dion was a top pair dman, I guess in your mind he probably still is since he's a leave.
See a trend? you're a full out homer. A sucker for whatever line they feed you...you'll eat it up. Kinda sad really,

Don't forget the gem from a couple of seasons ago when Tuna proclaimed Joffrey Lupul to be "one of the very best wingers in the NHL".

Hey, let Babcock win the Jack Adams. It's the only trophy a member of the Maple Leafs will ever win!

I'm not sure how many bothered to read the article but this to me is kind of why I hate Toronto so much;
Quote:
Too often in recent years the Jack Adams has gone to a one-off: a coach whose underdog team had a fluky, percentage-driven run to success that wasn’t going to be sustainable the next season. The last three winners – Paul MacLean, Patrick Roy and Bob Hartley – all fit that description.
|
One-off??? The great Mike Backcock has won a single Stanley Cup as head coach which is exactly the same as that one-off coach Bob Hartley. Not only that the Flames are a younger team than the Leafs and it's not like Babcock is using three kids under 22 years old in his top six forward group like Hartley. He's guiding a team full of mediocre veteran players to a mediocre record and since when was that Jack Adams material? I guess it is when it's the great Mike Babcock in Toronto.

Why do you think by "One-Off" they mean cup wins? Babcock has 1 cup win, 3 finals appearances and 2 gold medals. I think you misunderstood what they meant. They meant he has had longterm success.
It's not like the Toronto media is suddenly discovering Babcock. He has been a consensus top coach for years by everyone.
None of the 3 coaches mention have close to the consistent success of Babcock. I don't view Hartley as that, but there's a lot of first year coaches who win the Jack Adams by having his team exceed expectations and then can't follow-it-up. Roy and Maclean are indeed typical examples.

Yes, Babcock has a solid resume. Everyone agrees with that.
It is the fact that he is being touted now, because he's coaching a Leaf team to an under-500, lottery draft season, that is hilarious.
And also that the author would be so stupid and smug to describe a SC winner as one-off.

Have you not been following hockey the last decade? Everyone has been kissing Babcock's you-know-what for years. You've seriously missed that?
I don't agree calling Hartley a "One-Off", but in fairness it was years since his last success when he won last season. His cup win was 14 years ago with little to nothing to show. The other 2 examples were great ones and typical of Jack Adams winners over the years.
The idea the media is suddenly discovering and praising Babcock now that he's with the Leafs is silly. He's been at least consensus top 3 if not consensus top coach for years.

When he was doing good things in Detroit, he should have gotten a Jack Adams or two, yes.
But talking JA this year is leaf/laughable.

You're assuming I did. I actually said Bernier's season ended Babcock's chance.
My vote today would go to Barry Trotz.

5 points out of the playoffs with 3 games in-hand. 3rd best record in the East since Nov. 1st.

That makes zero sense. When the Leafs had a bad possession team the past few years he knocked them for it. A guy can't comliment a team ever without being called a homer.
