This is for the best, this year with our goalies we were never really going to go deep and the team is still too small to survive the Anaheim, Winnipeg, St. Louis teams.

Wideman, Russell, Hiller, Ramo gone and this team gets improved.

Send Hiller down, call up Ortio, Bench Wideman and Gio, call up Andersson or Nakladal.

I don't feel too bad about the prospect of a trade deadline selloff. Even earlier could be okay. Moving both goalies, Wideman, Hudler and potentially Gio would all be fine with me, then just tank and build with the youth as leaders next year.

Perhaps after a selloff they could get back to at least playing energetic and entertaining hockey with some call-ups.

From the sounds of it, the Flames should offload some of these underperforming veterans and poor goalies. Acquire some draft picks and let young players play, look at the future.

Why not? Engelland has been the second best defenceman behind Brodie and has looked solid all year and can Smid really be worse than Wideman and Russel? Honestly two of the worst defensive guys the Flames have had in the last 5 years. Butler would be an upgrade on those two.

Because as bad as Russell & Gio have been this year and as good as Engelland has been, Smid is truly next-level horrible at this point. Also both Smid & Engelland play too similar a game and cannot move the puck at all.

I'd rather put Engelland with Russell & have Gio try to help out Smid if I put Smid in the lineup.
