If all Snow really wants is an equal caliber D back, then Gio would fit the bill. Gio's new contract might not work for the Isles though.

I think Hamonic would be a better fit for the Flames going forward in terms of age.

Send Wideman+Russell for Hamonic?

Or if Gio continues stinking up the joint....

Mark Spector @SportsnetSpec
Not sure why CGY would be on Hamonic. Unless offering Dougie Hamilton in return. Don't see it, myself

Roger Millions @RogMillions
@SportsnetSpec I can see it.

What I mean is I could see #Flames interested in Hamonic @SportsnetSpec

Late to the party but could an advantage be for Calgary that they can send existing and future help back on defense? Wideman with salary retained, both years, plus one of the prospects like Kylington? I don't know a lot about Hamonic so not sure what is over or under payment.

Edler from Vancouver maybe?

If they are looking for top 4 dmen that is the only guy that makes sense really.

Jets likely don't move Trouba, Myers, or Byfuglien. Enstrom probably isn't a good enough piece.

Oilers can't really spare a top 4 d-man.

Calgary could do Giordano but that is unlikely. Don't think Russell or Wideman would be that attractive (although if Russell came with a cheap extension maybe).

Depending on how close he needs to be maybe Colorado makes sense. Tyson Barrie for Hamonic might work.

@StapeNewsday: Today's news going public may change things, but as of now, Hamonic trade isn't close. Believe Snow has talked to numerous GMs last 6 weeks.

Giordano and Backlund/Hudler for Harmonic and Okposo. Seems like it could work for the Islanders short and long term.

Wouldn't be surprised if the Oilers filled Eberle or Yak in a deal.
I can't imagine who the Canucks could offer that would receive any attention from Snow. I think Winnipeg is MUCH better positioned than all the WCdn teams to make this deal, but then again, if the Islanders are happy to take more forward depth in a return then I think an Edmonton deal is also more likely. Vancouver? I don't see it.

Wideman + Backlund + 4th?

I don't see Backlund really fitting with the emerging C depth and ability for Colborne to fill that 3rd line C and someone like Stajan or Grant on the 4th.

Gets the isles that top 4 D man, a talented forward who just has not shown his potential in Calgary and a pick to sweeten it.

If the Flames offered Russell + Wideman with Max salary retained on both + Prospects would that be at all feasable?

Too early to give up on Russell after what he showed last year -assuming he has intentions on re signing I keep him.
If you don't think you can get the contract done by the trade deadline then he becomes a trading piece. A team like the Oilers would throw a ton of money at Russell as a FA and it would be attractive to him with the proximity to family.

The more I think about it, the more I wouldn't mind seeing Gio go.

Seeing his play this year really opened my eyes to just how bad of a handicap that contract could be.

Came here to read up on trade rumors. Ecstatic to find back to back to back clips of Taylor Hall getting creamed into the boards instead. It's like a DVD Easter Egg.
