LOL so now you are just making up hypothetical BS to justify your hatred of Hiller?
Why would it be worse if Hiller was in net? Over their careers Hiller has shown to be a much better goalie than Ramo.
A goaltender like Ramo that can't stay in the net or control rebounds is worthless in the new, old, ancient, future or any other NHL.

Maybe the writing is on the wall in regards to a lack of a new contract and that he is likely going to be moved. Got to be hard to stay focused and give it your all, especially if you like it here.

When it comes to effort, it looks like he's pacing himself for a marathon instead of a 40 second shift. I would have never expected such a drastic step backwards from him. He went from sheltered minutes to being the #1 center on this team and rose to the occasion in his 2nd year, and in his 3rd he looks OK at the very best and completely lost more often than not. Really hopes he gets his #### together soon, dude is a -5 with 10 points himself. Not a good look when the team is giving up 4+ goals a night
|
He scored a goal tonight, you know that right?

i forgot scoring a goal absolves you of being a complete tire fire defensively for every game this season except for game #2
he was also a -2 tonight, you know that right?

Did you mean the reverse? If so then I think Ted Nolan was the last Jack Adams winner to be fired within the season afterwards.

No doubt. Allan SO again. Mrazek 38 saves for the shutout. Even Berra had a shutout tonight.
Blame team defense all you want but that Jagr goal is the kind a solid goalie rarely gives up. Ramo gives up at least one a game.
Not sure there is much they can do at this point. If we are gonna give up 4 or more a night I'd rather see Ortio do it - at least he might get better.

So were several of his teammates who also contributed nothing offensively.

The only thing keeping us within screaming distance of the playoffs is the fact that we still have 23 games left against the Pacific Division.
We have 6 games between now and American Thanksgiving, only one of which is against the Pacific. We've got three against division opponents (ANA, ARI, and SJS) right around the 26th.
I am of the opinion that we missed the playoffs in the first 10 games of the season and I've seen nothing which makes me think otherwise, however there is a faint, faint glimmer for those who are optimists.
If we're within two points of 3rd in the division by the time those three games against division opponents rolls around, we've got a shot. A slim shot, but a shot. We're chasing teams who have games in hand on us, and are playing better than us.
Based on the numbers at sportsclubstats.com, we currently have a better shot at Auston Matthews (9.5%) than of making the playoffs (7.0%).
If you want to hope, hope. But goddamn is it grim.

I would cut Hamilton some slack. Pretty big adjustment to come from a solid defensive system in Boston to no defensive system whatsoever in Calgary.

The Canucks are now 8 points ahead of us and the Kings 7 with a game in hand. With 3 point games it is going to be tough to make up those differences.
That means we have to out play Anaheim who is 2 points up with a game in hand. I am not sure I like those odds.
And that doesn't even take into consideration SJ and Arizona who we also have to outplay as well.
I guess the head to head games can be a positive if we can win them in regulation but those games seem to result in a lot of 3 point games which aren't a great way to make up big gaps.

You think Monahan contributed something offensively?
He scored a tap-in goal on the power play.
All his even strength icetime was spent hemmed in the panthers zone, dragging Johnny down in the process.

But you post was so over the top when describing his game. You used the descriptor "disastrous step back". Give me a break. On pace for over 50 points, which is less than last year, but it's early and still not a concerning number.
You forget he's 21, and is now playing full first line minutes at the leagues toughest position, and this time him and his line mates are not taking anyone by surprise and getting top efforts and even tougher match ups.
It's fine to point out that he's struggling more this year, but this is far from a "disastrous step back" and your dissapointment directed towards him and your lack of patience is concerning. Give the guy to figure out the new challenges the NHL throws his way as he graduates into an elite player, it's not all going to be roses up the learning curve.

Yeah, I get that. But I just thought he'd be at least somewhat capable of making that first pass. But, to be fair, he's not the only Dman who's struggled at that so far.

These comments really bug me. Yeah, he hasn't looked close to his usual self but if you follow this team semi-closely, you'd know he's not that kind of guy. Again, he's struggling and looks okay to horrible most nights, but man, these comments annoy me.

Last I checked, scoring goals was contributing offensively so yes.
Look, this game sucked. But I refuse to blame one or two specific players every time we lose. This team lost as a unit because they didn't play well together. Might sound boring as an explanation but I don't think there's much more to it. Reload, move on, and give 'er for the next one.

People need to stop being concerned about the standings now on a night in night out basis. Regardless of what others do, it's very easy to see just how unlikely the Flames making up this deficit is. If they are the best team in the league from here on out, they likely squeak in to the 3rd spot in the Pacific, anything less and they likely miss.
So much less stressful than looking at the standings each day, just watch them play for a few weeks, and see how close the get to winning 65% of their games. If they do it, feel good smile and check back in two weeks.
