Not ragging on the attitude or point of view, as I get the frustration, but the amount of people who have given up surprises me. It really does.

During the lean Iginla era years, when things were bad, people were giving up early but they also had low expectations coming in.

This season had high expectations so to have people calling for Auston Matthews so freakin early really surprises me.

Just an observation.

Yeah, he bait a switched the Flames for sure.

Please.
Of which there was a 1 point margin of error to miss and place 9th. This team better turn it around next game and be hot fire instead of hot garbage. If they decide to gel in late November and place 9th I am going to be angry. Make the playoffs or pack it in and draft high. Pick one, I have seen the latter Iggy and Tangs years and they are second worst to the young guns. Perpetual mediocrity no thank you.

As a ray of hope, didn't 2006 flames start 3-7 and win the division? One can dream right?

I think it has to do with how personally the fans take it. Basically, everyone is taking this slow start much harder than they usually would all things considered because it's hurting their pride more than it usually would.

Basically the fan base is having a tough time because this slow start has given steam to the "regression" crowd from last year that was mostly belittled by the Flames faithful last year. We are taking the slow start personally because essentially we are being forced to "eat our words" right now (although it's way too early for even the regression crowd to be declaring victory) and it creates irrational responses and over reactions to the gravity of this situation.

But I agree it's rediculous, and some perspective needs to be placed. I'll be as dissapointed as anyone to miss the playoffs this year, but as long as this young core progresses, it will be a positive season, and I'm certain the Flames are going to get better.

The Flames would have to magically rediscover themselves and suddenly start playing at 100% capacity (1st 10 mins of home opener, 2nd + 3rd periods vs DET) the entire season to have a crack at playoffs.

Not that it's impossible, but it's really unlikely at this point. Even if we build a rhythm and start to win more like 2 outta 3, settling back into slumps of only a single game before bouncing back to win... that kind of pace would not get you into the playoffs in this deep of a hole. You're talking president's trophy level pace. Stupid EA.

For me the funnest part of the last two years was the renewal of the roster and fresh faces.

I did not like some of the filler management brought in; Bollig, Jones, Stajan, Engelland, Raymond.

Maybe now they will be moved, waived, traded, assigned to the Liberian Hockey League, whatever. There has to be kids that will out play these guys right now.

Jones is at least skating and hitting. And scoring.

The other four can be easily replaced if we get rid of them.
Engelland - Nakladal
Bollig - Hathaway
Stajan - Arnold
Raymond - Granlund

Typically you can only have 30 regulation losses or fewer in order to make the playoffs.

There are 73 games remaining and the Flames have already used up 7 of them.

That means that they have to get points in 50 of the remaining games (some will be OTL)

That means they will have to have one hell of a November/December to get back into the conversation.

The most likely scenario and it is becoming more of a certainty with each additional loss is that the Flames will miss the playoffs. Not very good.

It's a tough road trip, especially with a back to back in NY. I thought the Rangers robbed us last night, and the only reason we lost was because we couldn't kill them off after going 1-0 up. Good tonight for 2 periods, but again you have to play 60 mins.

We need to forget about our record right now. Forget about whether the playoffs are gone and go back to the 7-game segment thing and try and win the next segment. Then go from there.

Forget about the 2-7, and just start putting wins on the board.

3 positives out of tonight:

1) Flames played decently. There was some fairly consistent effort. Ortio looked fine in net too, especially considering it was the first game of the season for him.

2) If the Flames are destined to miss the playoffs, better finish low and get a chance at a franchise guy. From that perspective, good start? Much rather have them winning though.

3) You can change your name on these forums? I hate my name. I suck at coming up with names, however. Mods, feel free to change it for me to whatever you wish

By digging such a big whole this early the flames have basically played their way out of a playoff spot. They don't even have a regulation win ffs

All the "X Team is No Good" threads look a little out of place right now.

Just beat the oilers, beat the canucks and try to rediscover some identity.

All the hype about our elite defense appears to be one of the most succesful jinx jobs in years.

Oh and try to beat the habs on friday, otherwise prepare to hear what may be the loudest the dome will get all year, courtesy of visiting teams fans.

What on earth has happened to some of our fans?? Some of the cobblers people are coming out with tonight is mind boggling.

I've been in only 2 threads and some posts are shocking.

This sounds like a lot of scapegoating BS. If anything messed with the Chemistry it was Brodie getting hurt.

Its hard to imagine with Gio getting a new 6 year 40 million dollar deal that he is concerned with how much Dougie is making. Rumour from more than one source around the league is that Wideman's deal is preventing teams from acquiring him so not sure how he can be sore about someone else's deal. You could fill a library with the number of posts complaining about how Engelland is overpaid. So that leaves maybe Russell who is rumoured to be getting 4+ million this year that is maybe having an issue with the deal.

Wideman and Russell were kept together from last year to start the season so not sure why their chemistry would be off anyways.

If there was a kid in the system able to displace one of those player you mentioned, they would have already.

Blows my mind how fans reactions to hard times is to immediately react to any older player they wish was not on the roster for a younger player and suggest that maybe the losing streak will be to see the light on these guys.

Jones has probably been one of our more consistent forwards, there is no one on the farm even close to ready to replicate what he brings. Engelland isn't even close to being replaced by anyone we have on the farm, and I can't believe his name keeps coming up, he's light years ahead right now of any of our d- prospects. Same can be said for Stajan, I have no idea who would replace him from the farm. Not sure if we have anyone who can play Bollig's role as consistently as he does, but he's an easy target to suggest to be replaced by a younger body. I'd suggest however if it were that easy, Bollig would not have had the career he's had, and I'd also suggest you are showing a selective memory of what you want to remember about last years playoff run, Bollig was great, not sure a rough start by the entire team should cost him his job. Raymond, I agree, he's not delivered.

We might not like the filler that management brought in (if you want to call it that), but they are still needed and fill a requirement for the most part. We are deeper than we thought going into last year, but you are painting some very legit NHL players who would make MANY teams in this league with a broad brush. These guys aren't just warm bodies who can be replaced by any joe blow from the minors.
