Not sure why you think this. Kulak was pretty good
before last season started. He had some things he needed to work on, sure, but it's not like he was terrible in the AHL - there just wasn't enough ice time for everybody and he drew the short straw. The ECHL was a good fit for him because it gave him first pairing minutes against a level of competition that's higher than Junior/NCAA, and he worked on his weaknesses in that league while tearing it apart offensively.
It's not like he miraculously saved his career with a wakeup call.
