I am happy with this signing! I think Ramo is better than Hiller and wouldn't mind seeing the Finnish combo take reigns for the year.

Like this deal. Should be interesting to see what they do with Hiller and Ortio now.

One more year of everyone's favourite crazy homeless goalie!
Much prefer Ramo to Hiller. I'm very happy with this signing.

I think someone has to want Hiller as a 1a/1b. It was mentioned that outside of 5-6 teams out there that have a true #1, the league is moving toward a 1a/1b tandem... Flames can keep Hiller @ 50% retained to maybe boost his value. I'm hoping, not sure if we'll get it though, that we can get a 2nd round pick for him.

People are nuts if they think Calgary lets Ortio go for free. They'll either trade him or Hiller.

I like both. Ramo when struggling looked worse than Hiller IMO.
But something may still be up. Flames have control of Ramo and his situation, that's all this signing means.
Flames give Ramo a nice $ raise and then flip him for a return today?
Or with that control they prevent him from going somewhere (ie Oilers) in FA.

A little disappointed. I was hoping if they weren't going with Hiller/Ortio that they would seek improvement but this is a lateral move as we already saw what the Hiller/Ramo combo was capable enough and while it sufficed there was definitely room for improvement. Ortio won't clear waivers so something will have to give as they won't carry three goaltenders.

I believe in Ortio, he'll be the starter by December I bet.

He's already better than Scrivens up in Edmonton. Plus any goalie injury during training camp opens a spot for Ortio on another team. I agree that it's not guaranteed he will be claimed but putting a future #1 goalie on waivers could go down as Treliving biggest mistake in his career.

I would expect the Flames management also isn't going to want to lose Ortio for nothing on waivers either but this signing fits with their philosophy of "always earned." If Ortio wants to be in the NHL next season, he'll have to beat one of two goalies who were what I would consider in the middle tier of goalies last year.
As for Ramo's contract, after all the goalie dominoes fell this past week, there was not many better options left. He's likely looking to parlay a good season behind what appears to be a top tier NHL defense core into a bigger money contract next year. Contract's term work well for both parties.

I think the more telling thing will be is if they sign a goalie for the AHL.

It looks to me that the three goalies will compete for the jobs at training camp. Good luck to Ortio as he has the best upside but if he loses out, I think he'll go through waivers. Other teams should be set by then and Treliving should have a good read on that situation. Some big decisions to be made but this creates competition which is the foundation of this team.

IMO Hiller will be moved before the weeks end. I dont think the flames can make a deep playoff run with Ramo/Hiller. Hopefully Ortio is as good as some people say he is.
