Historically this could lead to a three party system if Trump doesn't nail down the Republican nomination.
I wouldn't be surprised if the Republicans don't nominate Trump for the Presidential Election and he winds up revitalizing the American Independence Party which is best remember for running George Wallace and Curtis LeMay in the 1968 election and received 13% of the vote.
It just doesn't seem like there are good candidates on either side that are stepping into the ring. There's no doubt that the Democrats want to acclaim Clinton, but she just really comes across as a bit slimy and evasive. On the Republic Side the people that they need from the moderate side of that party are like "No way man, this is a whole zoo of crazy"
America is just not producing strong leaders anymore, it seems, they're producing celebrities.

If that happens, the Democrats win the election by a landslide. I sort of wonder what happens if the Republicans lose a another presidential election. They'd likely be 0 for 7 (including 2016) if the Florida recount had been handled correctly. Either way, they're coming into this with full control of Congress and a lameduck president who they've undermined at every turn. If they lose again, do they finally take a look in the mirror and realize that they're not getting back in the White House as long as they keep taking reprehensible stances on virtually every major political issue?

No, they're more likely to physically separate the country in two (again).
If they republicans split the conservative vote, the right won't win again for a very long time. It's a dangerous road but one they are inexorably heading toward because their entire platform is rooted in mistrust, playing on fears, and sowing the seeds of malcontent with the current world (bringing American back to a mythical time of political, economic, and moral supremacy). I doubt that will happen because their two-party system has been entrenched for almost two centuries.
I think Trump has been asked about the possibility of running as an independent if he doesn't secure the Republican vote. He said he would not because he is a firm Republican and doesn't want to cause a vote split for the GoP as happened in the 1992 election where Ross Perot won 19% of the popular vote which many think would have been Republican votes earning G. W. Bush senior a second Presidency.
Ba ha. That's funny, but it's this kind of amateur hour crap, and his "I'll never be elected saying this stuff" comments that make me sadly suspicious that this is all (again) just a put-on so this blowhard can get the attention he so desperately seeks.
An intern designing the banners and has access to the social media accounts? A candidate for city councillor in Calgary wouldn't be doing that, but this is a serious presidential campaign? Bah, I just hope he keeps it up. It is entertaining, that's for sure.

The reason is they have to pander to everyone. No one who has actual ideas or ideaks can win anymore.
The biggest problem is the money and the lobbies by far. Candidates are forced to green light projects that are good for one state over the whole nation so many times. But even after that, politicians are so scared of alienating one group of voters, they just end up this big generic mix.
It's not that there aren't good leaders out there. It's that they can't win. The system has to be changed first. It's not that there is no substance or good ideas. It's that its eroded in the endless march of money grabbing and vote grabbing.
A few ideas that could fix this right away. Shorten the election period. Bring it into alignment with other democracies. It's protracted right now cause of... you guessed it, money and lobbies. Elections are to expensive for the candidates and country, and too profitable for the big players.
Limit PAC's and spending. Again, get the money out. The rules are unfair to the small and disenfranchised, and prevent the candidates from running on real change.
There's a lot of other things that could be done, third party, fixing up the electoral colleges, but these are even tougher changes. And the first two are the real issues.
Look at the way Trump deals with this clueless reporter, like a wolf going after a sheep.
How could one man be so based?
The only one there that's clueless is Trump. After watching this again, I don't even believe that he thinks he actually has a shot anymore. Seems too me he's just doing this to get his name out there again into the spotlight. Looks like he is just trying to avoid the 9th bankruptcy. It also looked like NBC was taking it very easy on Trump. Since he is in the middle of sueing NBC. Looked like a " Hey don't sue us and we will make you look good in your presidental run now. We bow our heads . We regret canceling your pagents" type move.

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump slammed Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), a decorated Vietnam War veteran, on Saturday by saying McCain was not a war hero because he was captured by the North Vietnamese.
"He's not a war hero," Trump said. Sarcastically, Trump quipped, "He's a war hero because he was captured." Then, he added, "I like people that weren't captured."
I love Donald. I hope he becomes President. Could be the best thing to ever happen to America. Right next to George Washington. Save some room on Mt. Rushmore for this guy
I feel like Quincy Egg was close to being banned as an Oiler troll on FOI so shifted his focus to the Off Topic section of CP. The little nuggets he drops are sillier then anything mikey or Calgaryborn ever did.
