I'm happy for this return on the Baertschi trade. Looking forward to seeing him play at development camp.

Posted this photo in the summer ranking thread, but for those who may have already voted and miss it.
Is this our own Rasmus Andersson, and did the Oilers miss thier pick?

I find the photo humorous. Was wondering if anyone could confirm if it is our prospect.

I remember hearing talk about Doughty and how in the Kings organization they were watching him in junior and even early NHL days and saying imagine what he will do once he gets in shape. Obviously Doughty was a much higher pick but I think it bodes well when a guy can perform and isn't even in shape. A lot of athletes can seriously change their commitment to fitness in their late teens or early twenties. Gaudreau and "candy-gate" is another example of a change that is easily made with some dedication/commitment.

bumping this thread. Anderson seems to be getting little to no discussion with all of the Kylington discussions. And, somehow has become a lesser prospect (than Kylington) regardless of Flames FO assessment (see rank the prospects threads).

Viva la Rasmus!!!!

Here's an article talking about the success rate of players who played for Allsvenskan as 15-16 year olds. Good news - it's disproportionately high.

Have to enjoy a Canucks blog, crying about missing out on Pastrnak, mentioning our two top picks from this draft as REALLY standing out and making strong arguments to project as successful NHLers.

Edit- just remembered we used the Nucks pick to select Andersson. Hope this guy has a similar "what if" article next year

Went in looking to get more excited about Rasmus Andersson.

Left getting more excited about Kylington.

Andersson had 2 goals (1 PP, 1 ES) in a 10-4 loss to the Americans at their WJC summer evaluation camp.

Full score sheet:

He didn't put any points up in yesterday's game, but rang one of the crossbar.

Rasmus Andersson picked up an assist in a 5-2 win over the USA today.

Has 2g 1a in 3gp at the U20 camp in lake Placid.

The Swedes play one more exhibition game against Finland tomorrow.

He is tied with Rasmus Asplund, Joel Ek Eriksson, and Jakob Forsbacka-Karlosson to lead Sweden in points so far.

I wonder if Andersson was going to be our #15 anyways. He wasn't projected around there, but neither were Poirier or Jankowski in recent years.

If we kept #15 and drafted Anderson over Matt Barzal, I would have been pretty disappointed.

Me too... but I wouldn't underestimate any Swede taken #53 overall.

Friedman (Pretty sure he said the same on TV during a Flames pre-season game)

28. One year ago, there was some concern about Rasmus Andersson’s commitment to the game. He got the message, worked hard to get in shape and played very well for the Calgary Flames in the rookie tournament and in preseason. If the Flames get the same commitment from Oliver Kylington, another player who saw his stock drop at the draft, a position of strength at the NHL level (defence) becomes a position of strength deeper in the organization. Brandon Hickey could be a good one, too.

I find it odd sometimes hearing about guys "not being committed" to hockey. Can you really reach the heights of major junior and pro hockey by not being committed?

Is Rasmus' case more of him not training properly instead of not being committed? My theory is the people who surrounded him weren't giving him good training advice and that's what led to him not having the ideal body.

His showings in Penticton and in preseason haven't had me wanting more desire from him, he seems to be busting his ass in addition to being talented and smart.

It's a relative term and, for the most part, only the guys that are the most committed make it, because there are more than enough guys with the talent to do so.

Occasionally, you will see a guy with enough talent that he can rise as far as Andersson has without the top level of commitment.

In order to continue to rise though, he would have to raise his commitment level. Which it appears he has completely done.

His talent equals good prospect. His talent, plus total commitment, equals very, very good prospect.

FWIW in an interview with Andersson, is that he was fully aware of his conditioning issues. He wasn't spending much time in the gym and knew that he needed to do more. Sounds like he made the most of his Summer and looked to be in good shape for both camps.

This guy could be one hell of a steal. I think at this point it's almost reasonable to expect at least one of Andersson/Kylington to take the next step.

Players will conditioning issues tend to peak in Junior and can't compete once they turn pro. Ryan Howse looked amazing in Junior because of his shot, but he didn't work on other parts of his game and wasn't committed enough to hockey. I bet for every naturally talented hockey player who doesn't make it due to conditioning, there are 20 hockey players who did everything in their power to make it, but just didn't have the natural talent.
