The only difference is you'll have a top line this year. Kane-Eichel-O'Reilly. Even Crosby couldn't take the Pens to the playoffs in his first year. Let's say your top line adds about 70 goals to your league worst total of 161 last year, Thats 231. But then you have to minus roughly 20 (guessing thats what you crappy top line scored last year?) so You're around 210. Not good enough.

Sabres will be better but no chance at the playoffs. I will take Bolts, Habs, Pens, Caps, Islanders, Wings, Jackets, Rangers easily over the Sabres. Then teams like Panthers/Sens/Flyers are likely ahead too. Bruins being a total wild card if Bergeron/Krejci/Rask can carry them.

Sabres will be in the Leafs, Canes, Devils group. And no Lehner will not be that much better the what Enroth provided them with last year.
Yep -- after two straight embarrassi last place finishes I would be okay with "better, but not a playoff team". Never threw out a playoff prediction. Your logic is a bit strange though -- why am I subtracting the goals Moulson and Ennis and Girgensons scored? Those guys are still on the team and likely to do better with better players around them.

Also, the season doesn't start tomorrow. NYI didn't look like a playoff team til late September last year.

They won't be playing top line. Less time, less opportunity, would mean less amount of goals. I didn't subtract a whole lot, just 20.

He straight up forgot a number of solid bottom 9 guys like Gionta, Deslauriers, Larsson, and Foligno. Meszaros and Benoit are UFA's and almost assuredly not coming back, to be replaced with either promising players that have been developing inside the organization (McCabe, Pysyk) or via free agency.

Like really, we just traded draft picks and prospects for established, sought after veteran players and pieces and you tink they're tanking. Great job establishing you know next to nothing about the sport.
I knew that would piss you off. Enjoy the battle of the basement for another season. The Sabres have some good young players but they are far from improving out of the bottom 5 in the league.

Apparently they are close on an extension -- 6-7 years at around 7-7.5 million. Might hear about it today.

Knew he would cost a lot but the faster it gets done with him the better.

I like this trade for Buffalo a lot.

With Eichel and Reinhart, adding O'Reilly, who can handle the heavy lifting, is a great move.

We will see what Zadorov and Grigorenko become.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I don't think it would be that surprising if Sabres made playoffs next year.
4th place is up for grabs in that division.

But 4th place in the Atlantic means nothing if the 4 and 5th in the metro are better which I think is more likely than Buffalo being 4th in the Atlantic.

I think Buffalo has a better chance in the east than Edmonton does in the west
