Hiller salary = $4,500,000
Ward salary = $6,800,000

Is getting arguably the better goalie (Hiller) for $2,300,000 less real dollars enough to squeeze out the 35th overall draft pick from Carolina?

Boy would that ever be sweet to pick up another 2nd rounder, this time a very early 2nd rounder.

I'd argue Ward has an edge on being the better goalie TBH. Stats back it up. CAR not that good defensively.

Elliott is an interesting line of thought though. Slightly worse stats on a better team in less starts.

Signed for two more season at 2.5. Kind of fits the bill of playing 1b to a developing young goaltender in Ortio or Gillies.

What drives me up the wall about the media these days (and some fans) is how they always contradict themselves. One minute you hear teams who are anywhere near an average age of 29 and not winning a cup should rebuild and any team that misses the playoffs should rip it apart as well. Then you hear non stop how the Flames need to aviod being this years Colorado Avalanche. I don't know the AVs still had 90 points had some tough injuries and have a ton of young studs and now have a top 10 pick in this draft. Time to panic I guess. It's not like they were Buffalo bad.

If the Flames miss the playoffs next year but still have a good season 85 plus points it wouldn't be the end of the world. Especially when the theory is if your not cup contenders you might as well get a top 5 pick.

Not a chance should the Flames make a deal for a player that could walk in a year giving up Wotherspoon and Porier unless they can talk with the player and potentially resign for decent amount. No way the Flames make moves just to avoid being next years Colorado Avalanche
