Superstore and a (larger) Shoppers Drug Mart typically have an excellent selection of travel size (under 100ml) items.

It's unlikely they'll have all of your specific brand favorites, but they'll have plenty of options.

For years we've typically travelled carry on only. We can do 3 week trips without a problem. Our reasons vary but because we can pack lightly we feel we should get the benefit of not having to pay for checked bags. I've also had cases where checked bags miss a flight and had one my bags disappear for good.

What bothers me is the carry on size difference between planes. In January we flew down to Ushuaia to get on board a ship to Antarctica. There was no way we were going to chance our bags on such a flight. We booked on United but the YYC to IAH leg was AC and they had us on an Embrair. The overhead space was going to be too small for my bag and they made me check it. We weren't told this until at the gate. The lady didn't understand why I only wanted it only checked to Houston and not all the way. It likely would have made it fine but having been burnt before and given the trip there was no way I was chancing it more than necessary.

I wish more airlines did skycheck like Horizon. That I would do all the time if it meant I could grab my bag immediately when coming off the plane.

I do see people with overstuffed carry on bags all the time. I also see people with things like tennis racquet bags which are over the size limit by a lot.

London Drugs and Wal-Mart too.

If for some reason, you must have your specific brand (or don't want to pay the premium price for the smaller size), they also sell travel-size bottles that you can pour your stuff into.

Another thing to keep in mind is that normal sized toothpaste and deodorant containers are typically under the 100mL limit, so you don't even need to worry about getting travel sized for them.

Mountain Equipment Co-Op is probably the best source for travel sized anything.

While drugstores typically carry travel sized toiletries, MEC is the only place I have found that carries spray on sunscreen in sizes under 100ml. It's not aerosol sunscreen but still miles better than lotion IMO.

Sunscreen is usually ridiculously expensive in most sun and sand destinations so finding a carry on compliant size has been huge for my pasty white skin.

I travel for work a lot. I work in the film industry and while my carry-on is usually one Pelican 1510 case - it's always overweight. The reason? I'm usually carrying about $50k+ of film equipment that is not only fragile and I need to keep out of baggage handlers hands but also my entire career in one box. If it goes missing for a day or two I can put a production very behind schedule costing them big bucks, and if never comes back it could be disastrous for my livelihood.

I love how people in this thread are all like 'why do you need to take the kitchen sink on a regional flight to Saskatchewan?' - not realizing there are a million reasons why. Maybe it's delicate samples for a trade show; valuables not to be let out of sight; temperature sensitive items not to be stowed away below... whatever the reason, some people DO need a little leniency with their carry-ons and I hope AC uses a little common sense on this one.

In fact, I think I'm going to write a letter....

Honestly, why should anyone care about your film equipment? If someone pays the same amount for a ticket, they should get the same level of service.

I have also worked in an industry where I had to transport valuable equipment (or even things like samples that cost more than $50k to collect) and there are alternative ways of shipping things like that safely. It's more expensive and takes more planning, but it is what other people have to do. Someone else shouldn't have to be inconvenienced because you think you deserve special treatment due to the industry you work in.

Everyone thinks they are a special case and always have a reason why the rules should not apply to them, it's tiresome. I've shipped $40k cameras for work, pack them up nice, work out the logistics and ship them out if you don't want them checked.
