I also wish that McDavid would pull a Lindros on the oilers and then their incompetent GM gets another horrible return for him.

I call BS
It is more the case that he is the new whipping boy that couldn't be whipped because he had a homerun season and elevated his game when it mattered most. You couldn't run him out of town this season based on his play from game 3 onward, so now it is about pushing him down a pairing.
At best your plan grossly devalues an asset that is at an all time high.
But why not try a different spin on this? Brodie made a solid pairing with Engellend. Let's leave that as our bottom pair and bring Ina new player to pair with Giordano (note:not serious)

I was actually thinking during game 3 that this is exactly the type of underrated, young (only 26) overachiever that is built in the new Flames DNA.
He would also be great competition for Mason Raymond and Joe Colborne positions on the team.

No it's not the rational reason, it's this irrational one. Ok then, carry on.

There is not a defenceman in the league who could not benefit from being paired with a big physical puck mover

Scoring Winger
|
1) Top 4 D - ideally Seabrook.
2) Starting goaltender - much more consistent and reliable

Big RW who can score
2nd pairing dman
Get rid of a goalie
Dont trade up in 1st rd..make all our picks count. Rather pick 4 times in the first 2 rounds than one high pick and one 2nd.
Pay Gio the money he wants and deserves!!!
Get rid of Raymond and potter. They will be replaced by Wotherspoon and Poirier or granlund
Get a face off specialist
Push hard for any talented players who are not post apex and can help us get bigger and more experienced while still offering points and being able to play hard minutes.
Invite tons of kids to rookie camp. Look for another Jooris, bvb or Casey Bailey.
Have basically our whole team gain strength. 93 13 4 7 24 23 8 60 86 and a few more could all use 5-10lbs of lean muscle. Some could use more but it's only good to add so much weight at once, especially for players like Gaudreau who will never be hulking but need to use their speed and elusiveness rather than size. But Johnny could use some lower body strength for sure. Get him on Marty st.louis leg and core training program

You don't give people a spot in the lineup based on last season. You continue to improve your team wherever you can.

...why are people trying to shelter Wideman defensively? He was a rock back there this whole season. I'll just leave this here...
We need to find a quality guy to play on our 3rd pair, that could step up to top 4 duty if/when one of Gio/Brodie/Russell/Wideman get injured.

With teams like Colorado, Dallas, LA, and San Jose all trying to right their ship and make the playoffs after missing, I think some upgrades are needed. I also think this young core should be insulated with upgrades to continue their upwards developmental trajectory.
Needs:
Top 6 RW (right handed shot)
Top 4 D or good a 5D
Grit / goalscoring
Face-offs
Realistically, we won't be able to address all these needs in one offseason, and some will come naturally through development of our own prospects. I suggest the following:
1. Justin Williams - 6'1 RW RH who's won three SC! He's a proven winner and would easily fit in our top 6. He would be an excellent leader/role model for our young developing players.
2. Matt Belesky - He's physical and can score. He's also still young(ish) and would fit our system nicely.
3. Cody Franson - 6'5 RH defender that can play top 4 and plays a physical game (177 hits this season).
Gaudreau-Monahan-Hudler
Belesky-Backlund-Williams
Bouma-Bennett-Colborne
Ferland-Stajan-Jooris
Bolig
Giordano-Brodie (24 minutes)
Russell-Wideman(20 minutes)
Shlemko-Franson (16 minutes)
Engelland
Ramo
Ortio
Out: Raymond, Jones (I like him, but it's a numbers game), Granlund.

He's a nice to have player but Flames don't lack bottom 6 forwards and this guy may get overpaid because of one good series against the Flames.

Well now you're just being stubborn.
When the player performs at the level Wideman just did for 90 games, you do not approach next season with the intention of dropping him to your 3rd pairing.

The guy had his career best season and was well worth the contract. He had a season that puts him as a #1 defender on at least 10 teams.
And some of you want him to be on our 3rd pairing!?!?!? Because 55+ point players are so easy to find? Let alone 55+ point defencemen?
If this crap continues after that quality of a season, then I hope for Wideman's sake he is traded.

Either you think our top-four needs more size to handle teams like Anaheim, or you don't. If you're happy with the top-4, then there's not much to discuss. If you want to change the top-4, that means someone gets traded or moved to the 3rd pairing.
And the absolute best time to trade player is when he's over 30 and just had a career year. It's not running him out of town. If you want to get a good player, you give up a good player. Some of the most important trades in Flames history have been moving out very good players who are playing really well. Trades aren't punishment - they're exchanges of one kind of asset for another.

My wish list:
Gaudreau does not suffer sophomore slump
Colborne remembers to use his body
Ferland brings it with intensity and scores as well
Giordano makes a full recovery and resumes where he left off
Shlemko turns into Russell 2.0
Ortio makes the next step
We resign Ramo
Bennett is in the rookie of the year conversation
Poirier takes it to the next level.
Bouma has another good year
A little bit of defensive depths (I like our top 4, so a top six that can be top 4 if need be).
