But really, Wendy's is the cat's pyjamas when it comes to fast food. They seem to have the freshest ingredients, the greasiest burgers and they've upped their fry game substantially. They aren't McDonald's fries but I think I like them better now.
To each their own. Love those single DQ burgers. Typically not a big mustard and ketchup guy, but for whatever reason it works on the DQ basic burgers.

I don't know why you wouldn't buy everything off the value menu. It's basically the same meal as a combo, just more reasonable portions and a fraction of the price. A Jr. Chicken is $1.59. A McChicken is is $4.99. And the difference is one has fresher toppings and a crispier bite.

I'm not paying $3 extra for a soggy tomato slice and faux-Panko breading that doesn't stick to the breast anyways.

You're probably looking at the 18 piece plus fries at that price range. Tack on the gravy (KFC is almost inedible without it) and drinks as extras...

KFC is cheaper than it has been in the past, but the size of the chicken pieces has definitely shrunk. The drum sticks are tiny. The wings/thighs are mostly bones.

The price of a Big Mac meal including fries and drink is about $8. There really aren't many places offering a non-value style meal for that. The reality of the situation is that the cost of materials and labour has gone up considerably.

Places like 5 guys are going to be almost double the price after the cost of a drink is factored in.

I spoke with an olympic medalist, who was teaching a weighlifting course I was in. McDonalds, who sponsored the olympics, had free restaurants inside the olympic village. They were extremely popular. Many high end athletes can afford to eat almost anything they want, as their metabolic rates are so high and they train so much. Depending on the sport, many athletes will calorie load ahead of an event. The Michael Phelps diet is especially hilarious:

McDonald's coffee is great, I love it. Some of their chicken sandwiches are good, but you have to request no mayo otherwise they friggen overload it. The McWrap is good too as a light meal (~300 calories I believe). I never get the fries or any beef items there, except the occasional breakfast sandwich (which is pretty darn tasty)

Chick-Fil-A, In and Out even places like Del Taco or Carl's Jr are better than McDonalds.

I remember a few years back I had to fly into Calgary for a funeral. Time was tight and I was starving so I just did and A&W drive through. A basic meal of burger, fries and drink and i was paying double digits after tax.

Now I know I live in the cheapest part of the US, but I can literally go to a local BBQ joint, sit down and have a chop lunch combo for $6. That's 2 x 5 oz chops, fries and drink. $5 if I want one chop. Add in some for tip of course as it's a sit down restaurant not fast food.

Or I can go to a fast food joint and for well below the cost of that A&W meal I can get the same thing but upgrade the size AND upgrade the drink to a custard shake and still not be hitting double digits.

Restaurant (and car) prices are shocking to me when I go back.

Oh and McD's sucks. I grabbed some driving back from a late game a month or two back and reminded myself why I'm definitely better off starving.

In Canada, A&W has always been on the expensive side relative to McD's, Wendy's and Burger King. Good, but expensive.

I don't think I've ever went to A&W without a coupon. They send those things out like food stamps.

The nice thing about A&W is that their burgers actually have the texture and flavour of meat.

What's the ####ing point of even existing then?

I will say that if it's been a rough weekend for lack of eating, like say drunken camping or something, a double big mac on the way home is my go to.

Now I have chronic chest pain.

Yay.

I still feel of all the fast food establishments McDonalds is always the cleanest and most consistent from location to location compared to Wendy's, Burger King, A&W, etc. Fries are always crispy and burgers always taste the same and IMO less greasy than competitors even if the lack of grease robs their burgers of flavour.

That said my kids if given the choice always would rather to 5 guys and it's not like I need any excuses to go there as it's my personal favorite as well.

McDonalds is the most consistent. I love A&W but the one by my house is so disgusting last burger I bought went into the garbage. Too bad McDonald's Burgers aren't just a little better, I'd pay more for better ingredients. They have the process down why not have an actually decent burger on the menu. A $14 combo with a burger that doesn't make me sick immediately would be great.

I saw one of those Big Food docs about fast food and can't go near a McNugget anymore. I used to enjoy them once in a while but I won't touch them now.
