We used to have magpies at work. Then, someone started feeding a few pigeons that were around. Now, no magpies, but lots of pigeons pooping on cars.

I used to have magpies in a tree at my home, but robins won a war. Now the robins are gone and I have sparrows. Well... actually, recently its been a black bird with a red blot on its head. No idea what it is.

Nature just plays out.

I only ever hated those magpies because they thought it was great fun to crap on my car from the lamp post outside my house. They crap only on my car even though there's 6 cars in a row and we change parking spots regularly.

Quick update. The nest is gone, I'm still alive. It turned out they had eggs in the nest. I feel kind of bad about it, but that is what I was avoiding. I did not want them to have babies and then become aggressive to my Mom whenever she left the house. No sign of any magpies return yet. Either the horror of watching their home and family being destroyed was too much. Or they are plotting their revenge and are waiting for the right time to get me back.

They are plotting. Trust. Remain vigilant.

My coworker's dad was mowing the lawn one day and a magpie pooped on his head while he mowed under a tree. Turns out there was a nest there. The dad got so angry that he went back and destroyed the nest and collected the eggs. The magpies, of course, started dive bombing him. In order to defend himself, he pelting the magpies with their own eggs.

Did you consider trying to make friends with them so they won't be aggressive? I had a neighbor who started feeding his magpies and they became friendly as magpies do recognize faces and can be loyal.

My neighbor shoots them with pellet guns and they generally stay away from our yards but I don't find them very pesky. Just leave them be and they won't bug you. Like others have said, if you don't pose a threat then why is there a problem?

Now, I have a problem that is quite annoying. We have this one dumb wood###### in our neighborhood (Lynnwood) who likes to peck at the vents on the roofs of the houses on our street. This weekend it just happened to be our house!!! Fun. He/She would just sit there and peck away at the tin/metal vent on our roof and you can hear it throughout the house, like someone is using a jackhammer in our driveway.

But, funny thing is all my neighbors like the much more annoying wood######, yet nobody wants to shoot it or try to get rid of it. It doesn't do it at night or too early in the morning, so it isn't too bad but kind of funny that it does it at all. I think it does it to be annoying more than anything. Smart or stupid wood######?

I have had a few encounters with bothersome magpies and found the best solution is to go to youtube and pull up some bald eagle sounds. Depending upon range to bird, some amplification may be required. This also avoids any bad blood as the eagles get blamed.

I have also had some encounters with friendly magpies, ones that make the burbly chatter. In this case also go to youtube, but select other magpie sounds, and have a conversation.

I would say smart wood######.It's just attacking insects.
We have one that lives in our yard. They are cool birds. He lets me get pretty close to him over the years.

If a wood###### is attacking your home, it's most likely trying to get at the insects that are inside the wood. A professional pest control service will be able to inspect your home for these pests as well.

Attacking insects on the top of the tin vent? We don't have bugs in our house, we have been in the attic this spring and everything looks fine.

You would think it would peck at the wood on the side of the house, not the tin on the roof....seems strange.

Looks like is could also be drumming. Marking territory.

http://birding.about.com/od/birdingb...####s-Drum.htm

This seems more likely for our particular wood######.

They also drum to attract mates. The stupid arse wood######s in my neighbourhood also drill holes in my house, up to about 20 half-inch holes and 20 one-inch plus. I swear I'm going to kill that ####er if I can hit him. His bird buddies are moving into the holes and I've managed to keep them away semi-permanently until that idiot comes back and starts drilling more holes.

Hey stupid wood######: there are no bugs in the stucco. #### off!

I'd love the magpies in my neighbourhood to kill this little ####er but it seems as thought magpies will only eat other birds if they're already dead. Anyone know how to lure hawks or falcons to your house?

Today I was visiting my parents and after leaving I was half way home (I live about 90 mins away) I found that a Ladybug had stowed away in my vehicle. I started to think about letting it out when I got home and how it's life might have been destroyed because I took it away from it's Ladybug home and Ladybug family. So rather than see it suffer, I destroyed it.

Thought this would be an appropriate place to tell this story.

Hahaha. Whatever you do don't let it go in your house, the wood######s will come and try to peck their way in to get it!!!!

Magpies wouldn't be so bad if they could just tone it down a bit in the morning.

5am every freakin' day right outside our bedroom window. I'm counting down the days until winter so I can get a good nights sleep again.

The city should allow a "purge day". You get to sit on your deck with something like a .22 and go to town. Seems like every other year we get invaded by, what seems like, 50 or so crows. Just awful to listen to. And it seems like they are much larger this year. Hate them.
