Scoring that goal actually made for some nice symmetry - down by 3 goals 10 mins in, win by 3 goals after 60 . Also with Ferland scoring first and last for the Flames in that game.
Crazy that this could be considered an argument. Think about it - WHY was their goalie pulled? Because they were still trying to score. So why on earth would Ferland not also still be trying to score?
In a gunfight, if your enemy is wounded but still trying to shoot at your head, are you supposed to lower your gun and shoot at the ground? This is the killer instinct that all successful playoff teams need. Nothing to do with 'class' or 'respect', it was still a hockey game and he's still a hockey player trying to help his team. The best way to help his team in that moment is to score.
Cmon...guys there were 3 seconds left. Not enough time for the puck to get to the other end of the ice. The game was over, and the goal wasn't ensuring a win. There was definitely an element of insult here. So we shouldn't be debating whether or not this was necessary for the win, but if Ferland was justified in the insult.
Quite frankly, Bieksa, a vet, calling out a rookie the way he did in the media was uncalled for. Personally, I would have preferred it if Ferland had been the bigger person, but I completely understand why he did what he did.
Imagine if Ferland had skated away from the net with the puck and not scored. It would have been perceived as an insult. He was just doing his job. There is a reason the Canucks had an extra attacker and it wasn't so they could shoot the puck in our corner. It was a well deserved explanation mark! No apologies needed the better team won fair and square!

It's the friggin' NHL, not Timbits soccer, ffs, where you stop counting after X amount of goals and everyone gets a participation ribbon. I'm at a loss as to why anyone would refrain from snapping one into the empty net. You think the Canucks wouldn't have the exact same thing, in the reverse situation?
Why would he not score? He did the right thing, I think in a high speed, physical sport like hockey, the last thing on a paid athletes mind is not scoring too show "class"
Besides, after seeing that mma style elbow to the face of Stajen, the Canucks deserved it
Absolutely - the goal of hockey is to ... score goals. Ferlund was rewarded for a great series and a great game. The fans were rewarded too... I didn't hear any Flames fans booing when he scored.
