I don't think he plays games with his practice time. I think Monahan needs some extra maintenance or is not feeling well. He dressed for the practice and skated without noticeable problems - so he is able to play. He left early, so he needs a bit more rest for bruises or an illness.

I agree. I don't think he's 100%, but most players aren't this time of year. He's a priority to have healthy, so why not get him all the rest he can get. I'm sure he'll be just fine in the game.
I agree but I think its more along the lines of Bennett and Byron being able to make a pass or get the puck back to Backlund.
Raymond and Colborne have been brutal with Backlund. More often than not as soon as Backlund passes to one of them, the play dies.
Looking forward to seeing Backlund having wingers with above average hockey IQ. They could be very dangerous as well as defensively responsible.
You do realize that both Colborne and Raymond have way better scoring numbers than Byron (who I like a lot). Obviously not all playing with Backlund, but still, tough to say even Raymond, who has an identical number of games to Byron, but double the goals and more points as well, doesn't know how to finish as well as Byron.
Anyone who thinks it's mind games, do you honestly believe the Canucks care at all what the Flames do at practice today? They're trying to get themselves ready, they're not worried about Hartley or his line combinations or who's starting.
There are two explanations for Monahan leaving.
1. He is hurt badly enough that he couldn't or didn't want to continue; or
2. He was fine to continue but they're giving him some extra time for maintenance just to be safe.
Either is plausible. My guess is he's playing tomorrow but not at 100%.

I think the they do. If one of the twins weren't playing, do you think the Flames would care?

Have to disagree, of course they care about who is playing and what the line combos might be.

The Canucks are about to play up to seven games against the Flames. Of course they're keeping tabs on line combos and match ups and who's in and out.

I'll give Hartley the benefit of the doubt, but I don't think it's mind games.
In any event, this is the playoffs, and unless he got injured against LA and didn't realize it, I have no doubt that Monahan will be playing. The only questions are whether he is less than 100% (I would assume yes, as many guys are), and how much less than 100% he is.
That BBB line is veeeeery interesting. At best a good secondary scoring line. At worst a great energy line that is a huge pain in the ass to play against.

It sure means Backlund is taken off defensive duties against top lines and that will fall to Monahan and Stajan.
