I retired my 03-04 Regehr jersey a while ago as it was starting to get worn down, but that's the sweater I will be wearing to game 3. One of the greatest warriors this team ever had.

Reg was a class act. I specifically remember when Trevor Linden retired it was him leading the show of respect. Yet a lot of people gave the credit to Iginla

He told Warrener in Sept this would probably be his last year as he had a hard time training over the summer.

When the body says it's time to quit it's smart to listen.

Great career. Forever a flame Reggie

Oh I remember it. I think it was the post that spurred me to research Hemsky's entire production versus the Flames in the first place.

Forget retiring his number, or giving him forever a flame status. They should retire the left defensive zone boards in honour of Regehr.

What a warrior, one of the Flame greats for sure.
If I was to name an all time Flames team he' d certainly be there along with MacInnis, Suter, Reinhart, Giordano, and perhaps Macoun.

Agreed

He might be "one dimensional" but he was damn good at it. I think it was in 2007 or 2008, Crosby once said Regehr was the hardest defenseman to play against in the league.

I remember one international tournament when Reg made the team and was given the shutdown assignemnt on Jagr. Jagr! At the time Reg was pretty young, too.

I think he chose to be one dimensional. His shot was decent and while he couldn't rush the puck, he could pass it pretty well. His zone exit was always tidy.

He had a howitzer of a shot but it took him eons to get it off which is why he rarely shot the puck.

Underrated beast of a D. It's a shame his offensive game never developed, but in his prime he was one of the top 3 defensive D in the game.

Well you will probably see him around Calgary.

Says in this interview that he will be going to work for Blueline Oilfield Rentals a company he co-founded in Calgary

http://lakingsinsider.com/2015/07/29...ckey-ventures/

Quote:
What did we learn from the video? Regehr once sewed Darryl Sutters track pants pockets together as part of a prank. He’ll also be leaving hockey to move back to Calgary and work for Blueline Oilfield Rentals, a company he co-founded. On the Blueline Oilfield Rentals website, there’s a bio for Regehr.

Said Regehr in the video provided by FOXSportsWest.com: “We’re going to live in Calgary for probably the large part of the year and go back to the lake in Saskatchewan in the summer months as much as we can, but I started a frew things prior to being done in the league. I started a company with a friend of mine. It’s called Blueline Oilfield Rentals, and we’re based out of Calgary. We’ve been working on that since 2007, so it’s been really enjoyable. Also, I own some farmland, and a little bit of a quick story, the farmer that I used to work for and I grew up working for as a kid, he now rents the farmland from me. We have a very good relationship, and I still enjoy going out and working with him and doing whatever he wants me to do, whether it’s drive a truck for him or a combine, or whatever he needs to be done. So I’m actually looking forward to in the fall when normally I’d be coming back and getting into training camp, just to sit out there and be a part of harvest and help work with him. I did it a couple years. During the lockouts, I actually went there in the fall and helped out, and it’s a fantastic time to be around the prairie provinces. The harvest time, everyone’s in a good mood, everyone’s taking the crops in, and there’s a very special relationship between the people and the land, and it’s fun to be a part of that.”

Bob Miller responded, “Well, no wonder Darryl Sutter likes you.” For a few more laughs, Regehr recalls his prank on Sutter four minutes into the second video. There are also interesting conversations about Regehr’s noted ability to get a good feel for a room and when to step in and offer his voice.

It's good to see Reggie was smart with his money and didn't just piss it away or invest in some ridiculous scheme.

What a life though I must say. Financial security for you and your family by your mid-thirties, and split time between the Lakehouse and Calgary. Not a bad retirement

He might be losing money with Blueline Oilfield Rentals the way the oil business is going now.

I was hoping he'd play one more year with the Flames but Hamilton is not a bad compromise. It doesn't sound like he wants to get into coaching but when the season starts, he may change his priorities.
