Could they list Russell, for example, as day to day and use an emergency call up for a defenceman?

No idea. If they can they should.

Was reading through looking to see if anyone made this point already. I think you have to audition him hard, you can't play a playoff series with 5 dmen.

With 2nd place still a possibility (no matter how remote), you'd have to think Hartley will ice a near complete team of regulars.
Bennett and Wotherspoon could start, but both should have probably been starting already.
EDM has been playing fairly well lately....maybe it's not so remote....

Isn't 2nd place out of reach now? Even if Vancouver loses and we win we will have the same amount of points but they have 1 more ROW than us.

Nope, both have 41 ROW, Vancouver has to lose and the Flames have to win though. Not sure what happens if the Flames win in a shoot - out. Is the third tie-breaker head-to-head? If so, Flames went 2-1-1 against Vancouver this year!
Go Oilers (this is getting weird)

I think you play Potter and Wotherspoon to audition both but I'd bet on any decent game by Wotherspoon gets him the start in the playoffs (assuming Diaz isn't back). Rest Russell as he has to be sore from all the blocked shots.
You play all of the callups so into the lineup goes Bennett and Shore. I'd rest Backlund (he seems to be taking less face-offs and doing poorly at them) and sit Bollig. You keep Monahan's line together but play them way less than normal.
Keep 19-18-79 together as that has real potential in the playoffs (especially at home where we can have easy minutes for the 4th line).
That leaves: Shore, Bennett, Raymond, Colborne, Granlund and Jooris. Maybe something like:
Jooris - Shore - Bennett
Raymond - Colborne - Granlund

Hartley on 960 saying it is very likely a lot of kids will play tomorrow.
Going to have a meeting to decide who will play later today.
Still wants to win tomorrow

TO me the home Ice Advantage just isn't that big of a deal.
In the first round you have 50% change of getting 1 extra home game if the series goes 5 or 7 games rather than 4 or 6. And I'm thinking there is something like a 10% chance Edmonton will actually beat Vancouver. So are you really going to play Hudler, Brodie and Wideman hard for like a 5% chance of 1 extra home date.
For the second round home ice advantage will be 100% determined by the Ducks. There is nothing the Flames can do about it now.
And it is way to early to worry about anything beyond that.
Ty in TJ out.
Sam in Jiri out.
Monahan and Gaudreau should play 14 minutes max.
Wideman & Russell should play 18 minutes max.

No matter who the play, I agree they should certainly flatten out the minutes for everyone.

#NHLJets are locked in to 2nd wild card in West. They've recalled goaltender Connor Hellebuyck from the IceCaps.
Likely will play Hellebuyck tomorrow

I'd rest Russell. Sit Bollig and and a top 6 forward. Bollig's not needed because this won't be a very physical game. I'd play Gaudreau, Monahan and Hudler but just give them 10-15 min of ice time. Get Shore and Bennett in. Also Russell logged a lot of minutes and has blocked a lot of shots. He needs a game off

There is a practice scheduled, but it is expected to be very optional.

No, because even if Russell was legitimately injured, we still have six healthy defencemen on the roster. If he is not legitimately injured, then we are talking CBA circumvention, and the risk of massive fines and lost draft picks.
Hopefully Hartley puts both Potter and Wotherspoon in, and gives them 15 and 20 minutes respectively. Let the guys play some light work and rest for the most part.

Not worried at all about finishing second. They might be better off starting on the road, as they are such a young team and the distractions around town will be plentiful.
I would slot in Bennett, Wotherspoon, Shore and Ortio, if healthy. Sit Hudler, Hiller one of Wideman/Russell. Not sure on the 4th, as we still need to be competitive and have some vets play. I am thinking that perhaps Backlund is hurting a bit?

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.
