Pretty much this. It makes sense if you think that the fans are really more a part of the franchise than the team.

If you try replacing "we" with "the franchise" and "they" with "the team", it works pretty well.

We can be good, but they play well.
If they win, we also win, so in that case it's all the same.

That's sort of how I see it and how I use the words, but I'm sure I'm not 100% consistent with it.

I don't mind when people use ''we'' when it comes to the team. I do mind when people say ''we'' when it comes to things like salaries, like they are forking out those millions out of their own pockets.

I prefer "they". While "we" may be emotionally invested, we aren't members of the team.

I normally say "Flames win!!" not "We win!!".

Interesting topic though. /thumbsup

I always say 'Flames' or 'the team' or 'they'. Using 'we' sounds weird coming from someone who isn't part of the organization.

I say "We", I may be lonely on the East coast, but I'm part of the complete Flames organization through and through. It's not even a fuzzy line with me, it's just part of my life. I am but one piece of many that make up the the whole puzzle that is the Calgary Flames!

Well in light of the whole "We are the C of Red campaign" I think its OK to say we. On here I use "We" all the time. It seems natural. But for whatever reason in real life conversations, I find myself using "they" more.

Interesting thread and very worthy of being brought up as so many on forums feel the need to call out the "we" crowd.

I use both we and they interchangeably.
As a huge seahawks fan (pre "potential dynasty") I use we/they 50/50
As a small NBA fan who cheers on the raports I use we/they 20/80
As a die hard flames fan I use we/they 80/20

Either way, "we" brings more passion to the discussion IMO and I will never call anyone out on it either way (unless they are a converted leaf, canuck or oil fan)

You or me. Us or them. Now and then. When and where. Now or later.

I would refer to them as the Flames usually. But that's how I personally speak

I spend a crap load of money on the team, and get the emotional investment with this year's team. It has a lot in common with that 2004 team.

I can add that having attended the poker event, pretty much every member of the team is being very engaged and inclusive of the community. Even though I myself would unlikely use 'we', I can support it because the guys legitimately appreciate your investment.

These are good guys that love what they are doing and appreciate you being on board. And Bob too was especially engaging.
