Unfortunately Wilson couldn't do the same thing. Joe was right. Wilson should shut his mouth.
Totally classless on Wilson's part.

Great summary. Joe has earned the right to tell Wilson to shut his mouth. Those people feeling Joe is out of line have not followed the events in San Jose and/or are a bunch of yes men.

Let's just say he is not a fan of the Calgary Flames.

Fair enough, I didn't know you had inside info! I wasn't speculating about any interest the Flames might have, more so that he just wouldn't stay in SJ.
Out of curiosity, why does he hate the Flames? I can see him not being a fan of the Canadian media, but rarely do you hear players have bad things to say about the franchise.

Except for the part where Wilson signs Joe's cheques and is responsible for the overall health of the organization and not Jumbo Joe's feelings.
Lets face facts, Thornton has mailed it in when it counted most on numerous occasions, having that guy be your Captain isnt good organizational policy either.
They're both wrong, but Joe should have smiled and nodded and taken it up with Wilson in private, Wilson had fewer options as he was asked a direct question at a public event and he was very diplomatic about it, dodging it would have been worse.

The owner signs Joe's cheques. Wilson shouldn't even be talking about that so long after it happened. Find a way to answer that question with a non-answer.

I am not sure he hates the Flames but he certainly does not like them. Probably years of battling them, especially in the playoffs I suppose. I once jokingly told him he should play for a real team like Calgary, he told me to eat a d*ck so take that as you will, lol.

Well wilson does not sign his cheques. The teams owners do.
What do you mean take it up in private ? Wilson opened his yap up. Joe has every right to be pissed. Wilson had fewer options? All he had to say was " This is an internal affair we wont be talking about it further". If he was diplomatic about it he just wouldnt have to talked about it.
Wilson should have kept his ####ing mouth shut. Bottem line. Season ticket holders meeting or not some things are internal issues only.

How many years now that the Sharks have had a good enough roster to win the cup and yet have won nothing?
They might not say it out loud, but the C was taken away from Thornton because he isn't a good enough leader to win the cup.

Leadership is never on any single person. Giving Wideman a letter didn't suddenly make him a better 'leader.' He earned it all season.
Thornton simply isn't cutting it, and the fact that the Sharks are trying to prance around the issue instead of just trading him away when he clearly isn't going to win him anything is pretty sad.

They did try to trade him tho. Thorton has final say. He said no.He has been asked to waive his NTC.
Wilson cant trade him or patty so he seems to be trying to publicly shame him.

I know everyone is trying to be professional, but I'm sure if they made it quite evident to Thornton that he is not wanted, he would agree to be traded.
Saying he cares so much and all that BS after proving nothing for 10 years is talking out of both sides of your mouth.
Either he sucks at leading the team, and therefore you removed the C, or he doesn't and you're dumb for thinking it'll make a difference.
Every team has a group of leaders. Removing the C and 'dispensing' leadership out among other players is a dumb idea if you think it'll actually help you fix any of the problems you've had for the better part of a decade.
I'm fine with asking younger players or other players to step up and be leaders, but I think removing the C was a lame duck move by a lame duck team. At some point it isn't working anymore.

If my boss:
1. Couldn't fire me
2. Couldn't move me to another company
3. Couldn't cut my pay
4. Was slagging me in public
...I'd tell him to shut up too.

Wilson can make it clear he does not want Thornton but his teammates do. He does not want Marleau either and again, the rest of the team do. I think both Wilson and McLellan will be gone before either of those two guys are.

I think Joe knows he is not wanted by management. By all accounts otherwise is in the locker room tho it is still "his" team. Wilson also hasnt proved #### either. He has not won a stanley cup. He won a Norris trophey in 82 but besides that #### all. Credit goes to him for bringing notoriety to the sharks in the first two years of their exsistance but he dosent get to an a hole because of this. Thorton is twice the player he was. This seems to be a clash of egos tho. Wilsons complex seems to stem from him being Captain for the first 2 years.
Wilson thinks him and Patty are inferior to his time as captain.

According to MacKenzie tonight, they wanted to move him, he wouldn't waive, so they removed the "C" from him and there has been animosity since, both ways.

Someone needs to buy Thornton and Wilson clothes dryers, because they are airing all their dirty laundry out in public.

Didn't Thornton pretty much say last summer that the only way he would leave San Jose was if the fans and players no longer wanted him there?
