Even his goal today I believe is underrated by most.
Most players who got the puck in that spot would just fire it on net; he waited. The few players who would have the poise and patience to wait like he did, would probably try to RAISE the puck over the defenders, most likely getting blocked. He very smartly slid the puck on the ice into the corner of the net, through the legs of 2 separate defenders.
To me, just shows how intelligent this player is, and how lucky the Flames are to have him.
(Continue said homer circle jerk, lol)

Heading into each of the last 2 drafts the Flames drafted the player I was hoping for most; Sean Monahan then Sam Bennett.
It still makes me giddy to think that we landed both of them, and Bennett isn't even on this team yet.

Don't want to hype the kid anymore than he already is but what a great guy, mature beyond his years. You hear about lots of young stars acting like asses but Mony is a real professional. This team has a lot of holes but he is a future franchise player the way he is developing. Props to Hartley as well for knowing how hard to push.

Mony is showing us he has the potential to develop into a Jonathan Toews type player. Captain Serious and future Captain Serious 2.0. He really looks like 30 goals is in his gunsights.

Remember all the crying over the Flames winning too many games at the end of 2013 and screwing our draft pick?
Guys like Barkov , Jones, and Drouin are all good players, but I'm not upset about only being left with Monahan. That appears to have worked out okay.

Those were the days. I was one of those guys loudly whining about how Carolina and Nashville were out-taking us.
The hockey gods work in mysterious ways.

Sean Monahan - 24G 22A 46PTS
Jordan Eberle - 15G 29A 44PTS
RNH - 16G 23A 39 PTS
Hall - 11G 19A 30 PTS (Would have 45 if he kept pace and played all the games since)
Yakupov - 9G 13A 22 PTS
(also Jooris only has 2 fewer points in 15 fewer games than Yakupov)

I smiled when Barkov went 2nd.
I grinned when Drouin went 3rd.
I knew Jones would go next.
I hugged my hated ex wife when Carolina took Lindholm (long story why I was there!)
I didn't even need to see Monahan picked, I knew he was ours.

Don't mean to be rude but who cares about those losers?
I hate the greaseballs more than anyone but let's not soil the accomplishments of our our young players by comparing them to those donkeys.

Monohan looks more and more like a star in the making for this team. So many people predicted a sophomore jinx but he's improved every aspect of his game... Face offs, strength, speed, playmaking, more shots on goal, his two-way game... Everything! He's more clutch than ever and he's only 20 years old folks. 30 goals is within sight and he seems to have raised his game even more when the team needs it the most.

I just find it amusing that after nearly a decade of rebuilding, Calgary's first pick after they started their own rebuild is better two years later than any of theirs from the past decade.
It's just sad and funny.

At the time I was really hoping we'd win the lottery & get Mackinnon. Turns out we lucked-out & got the cornerstone of the franchise at 6th overall instead.
I remember one of our resident YouTube scouts saying Mony was going to be a 4th line plugger because all his goals were garbage goals, and he'd never translate those goals to the pros. His goals may not be flashy all that often, but they are always clutch.
He has the best hockey smarts on the team. Some might argue Gaudreau or Hudler are smarter, but look what Monahan does in every zone; in every situation. It's rare that a player is so balanced and excells so much on both sides of the puck.
Now I can't wait until we have Bennett's dynamism to compliment the steadiness of Monahan. Teams won't be able to cope.

Such a stud. So glad we have him.
I sometimes have to remind myself that he's only 20 as he's so steady in every zone.
After the last 3 games I have no doubt that he gets to 30 goals this year.
Monahan, Bennett and Backlund will be a great center combo, hopefully for years to come.

The poise this kid has is unreal.
Many guys never develop it.
He is brimming with it at 20.
That goal was a thing of beauty.

For real, he's the closest thing to Toews since Toews in terms of players that have come into the league. Even has the "serious" personality down pat.

It is pretty awesome that Calgary seems to have a Towes/Kane duo developing with Monahan/Gaudreau. I know fans have been hoping this would be the case before the season but the comparisons the pkayers are drawing to each other is awesome.
I really wanted Monahan in the 2013 draft over Lindholm. Before the draft I watched interviews with both players and instantly fell in love with Monahan. He is so poised and mature I was not the least bit surprised he made the team right away. I am pleasantly surprised he comlletey avoided the sophomore slump though
