funny thing about stillman was that st. louis traded him to tampa where he got a ring, then he went off to carolina where nothing could be fina and won another ring - seems that button was not the only one making bad trades

With the offseason about to end, I felt like bumping this thread.

3 D - Giordano / Brodie / Hamilton
2 C - Monahan / Backlund / (Bennett)
1 G - Hiller
2 F - Gaudreau / Hudler / (Bennett)
1 D - Russell / (Wideman)

Hiller is still the weak link, but it's looking a lot sturdier now. I like

good stuff ...

I didn't necessarily agree with it but I thought it was interesting. Amazing to add Hamilton as one of the pillars without moving a thing off the roster.

I, like many, really felt the team needed a good 4 on the blueline, not a 1, not a 2, not even a 3, but a 4. A way to bump Wideman out of severe defensive assignments and improve the top four while substantially improving the bottom pairing.

Hamilton? Seriously?

Doesn't even seem real that he's on our team yet, I remember when trade rumours started and I thought man we could use a d like that, too bad we have no way of getting one and likely won't.

When the trade went down I laughed thinking it was a joke similar to when I was walking out of the dome and all the tvs were saying Iginla was a Bruin.

It was a video game trade, the kind I make to put my virtual Calgary Flames over the top when I'm playing pretend GM. Unless I'm trying to play it 'realistic', then I probably pick up someone less awesome, you know, to maintain integrity with the realism mandate. Even if I was going all out and striping teams of their best young players, I don't think a 1st and 2 2nds would get done. My rep would definitely go down for throwing out such a lopsided offer.

I guess what I'm saying is I liked the trade too. A little too much maybe.

The only Button I care about in Calgary is named Todd.

A real Pyramid would be

4 - Top 4 D-Men
3 - Strong Centers
2 - Scoring Wingers
1 - Goalie

That seems to be the true pyramid IMO.

Still has a similar overarching theme to Button, but actually makes a pyramid. Kind of works for the last two Stanley Cup Champions.

Chicago 2014/2015

Keith, Seabrooke, Hjalmarsson, Oduya
Toews, Shaw, (Richards/Kruger/Vermette)
Kane, Hossa, (Sharp)
Crawford

L.A. 2013/2014

Doughty, Muzzin, Voynov, Mitchell
Kopitar, Carter, Stoll
Gaborik, Williams
Quick

Flames:

Giordano, Hamilton, Brodie, (Russell/Wideman)
Monahan, Bennett, Backlund
Gaudreau, Hudler
?

Really the biggest hole in our Pyramid right now is probably goaltender, since we really don't have a set #1 in that position.

Even then though I am not sure that makes you a contender, that more just means you are a playoff team. To be a true champion those teams had lots of depth and skill beyond the pyramid.

I agree, he's been terrible in the training camp so far. Decision has already been made.
