Like I said if I lived in Ward 7 the selfish side of me would support her.

I have never heard the word 'blotto' used to describe (presumeably) being really drunk.

Erick Estrada loves Erick Estrada. He loves his area of the city and hopes taxes decrease so he can underfund areas he doesn't think are worthy. He would like to live in a city with minimal culture, with aging and ugly infrastructure. He thinks that the main artery into the city from our national highway network should be 2 lanes and full of liquor stores and XXX adult stores. Erick thinks he's a civil engineer and that councillors are directly responsible for budgeting for major infrastructure projects. If something doesn't benefit Erick, he inevitably deems it 'wasteful'. As long as he remains ill-informed on civic issues, he'll continue to rag against councillors making memorable contributions to our city.

Nenshi is bright, and his policies are sound. But even by the standards of politicians the guy is a narcissist. I don't think I've heard a politician make so many "I" statements when he talks.
"What I'd like to see..."
"I've been saying for a long time now..."
"I take exception to the comments..."
"I want everyone to know that I..."

Actually if you have ever paid attention over the years you would know that I am pro-city improvement. I'm one of the few here that would have no issues with taxpayer money going into new sports facilities and you rarely hear me complain about money spent on things that are needed or things that can be beneficial to the city. It's the wasteful stuff that I don't like and she's contributed to some stupid ideas and wasteful projects.

I'm not saying people can't do their jobs after a drink, but being drunk is totally different. If people want to go get plastered at lunch on a Tuesday and come back to work, that's their choice. But it's their dime and those people tend to get fired.
And I totally agree that the Government employees should enjoy the same freedoms and benefits of those in the private sector. If I came to work drunk, or god forbid stoned, I would be fired on the spot.

You likely would not. The employer would first have to do an investigation, then ensure you were not suffering from a drug or alcohol dependency, otherwise they could get sued for wrongful dismissal of an individual with a disability.

Cool cool.
Going back to your point about it being the "over budget Peace Bridge" though? And how any that funding is Druh's direct influence?

I don`t know if the city paid more than the $25 million fixed cost but towards the end of the project the Graham (I believe that was the contractor) did ask the city for more money as a result of cost over runs.

Did they get it?
For the record, the two times I could vote in her district, I voted against her both time. I get the hate against her she can be a bit fluffy Duffy but the hate she receives and the blame that gets laid at her feet is laughable.

I don`t know what ever happened to the request for additional funds. Maybe the contractor backed down from the request or maybe the city did in fact provide more funds at a later date which was buried in the budget somewhere. I don`t think there was any updated media reports.

I love what they did with Memorial Drive. When I have visitors in town, if I can remotely justify taking Memorial as my route somewhere I do so, as with the improvements to the streetscape, the downtown and river views, as well as getting to pass by Centre Street bridge with it's new lighting, the Peace Bridge and Langevin with it's LED setup, I do it. People have unanimously commented on what a nice experience driving along that road is.
They just need to move the frigging Peace Bridge crosswalk already. It's ridiculous.

I wish people would get over the damn Peace Bridge, already. People must have wasted $25 million in productivity debating it online in the 6 years since it was approved.

I always thought that Memorial Drive would be a cool mini-level in a racing game like Gran Turismo. Obviously would never happen, but that road and the beauty that surrounds it in its urban landscape setting would be pretty fun as a drag race component from Edmonton Trail until Shaganappi.
I think we're pretty lucky to have Memorial Drive.

Poppy Plaza is a beautiful spot too, gorgeous yet understated. The whole stretch from there to the Peace Bridge is such a beautiful walk. We should be so lucky to have more areas like that in the city.

Which is kind of why Chu is more than a little bit grating. Rather than trying to get nice things for the communities within his ward, he seems more focused on making sure that nobody gets anything. Gees. Start a Nosehill Flow or build a cycle track that completely circumnavigates Nosehill Park.
