Spoon is staying in Addy until he's ready to be a full time NHLer. Once he gets recalled, he will likely be staying.

We also heard that with Knight, so I don't really believe that stuff anymore..

We did hear that about Knight, but then we drafted Monahan. Then Colborne showed up on the scene. And then Granlund and Jooris outperformed him. And then Arnold turned pro and pushed him even further down the depth chart.

If the same scenario happened with Wotherspoon it would mean we somehow acquired 5 players of a similar age but who pushed him down the pecking order. It would hardly be a tragedy.

I think we'll see Wotherspoon replace Smid on the roster by the end of the season. It's great that he's in a good position to steadily develop in the AHL right now, but I do think he's ready for The Show.

Add in the fact that Ortio is basically assured an NHL spot in October anyway, and I could see the team stepping up efforts to make room for him right now if he keeps on playing well.

The world has this "Flames be carried by their goaltenders" feel from October and that Hiller stoning in Chicago, but the bottom line is the Flames have had very average goaltending thus far (ranked 21st). So if they think they can get a 3% save percentage boost from Ortio, when you're 2 points out of a playoff spot you'd better go with it.
The Hiller/Ramo battle at the beginning of the season is what spurred this team into the position it was a month ago (80%+ odds of being in the playoffs). Each game they had to out-do each other, and as a result they kept us in a lot of games we had no business going on to win. As Hiller emerged as the go-to guy I fear they may have both gotten a bit complacent.

If throwing Ortio into the ring is going to light a fire under the other two to fight for their jobs, then let's keep Ortio around for awhile. I really don't mind having 3 NHL calibre goalies and wouldn't trade any of them unless the return was significant.

^ not directed at you, but people have talked about how many scouts were at games for years and I don't think I have ever seen it related to any actual activity - ever.

True... Plus the majority of scouts will be there to watch the coyotes players that are already rumoured to be trade-bait... Vermette, yandle, etc. they'll watch for flames players to target too but it will be the bottom-feeding coyotes that contending teams will be expecting to pick at.
