Now we know why mcgrattan was assigned to the AHL!
I get that AHL teams generally don't play in top notch cities, but putting your affiliate in a place like Stockton? This will be terrible for team morale (if all the players make it to the end of the season alive).
Did I miss an update? Is our AHL affiliate going to be in Bogota or Lagos?

Wow this can't be real, what the #$*# would someone need to be smoking to think this is a good idea! Listed as the 8th most dangerous place in the US to live by Forbes and they now are bankrupt and had to cut the Policing budget.
Are the Flames going to build a gated community an hour outside of the city and put all players on lock down, bus them in and out of the arena with a military escort.?
Agreed. Would suck a bag of d#### to support or be employed by franchises that seemingly pop up and disappear overnight.
How does that work for staff? I'm sure for the most part they are not compensated enough to balance the instability (although in my mind, stability counts for a lot s you'd have to pay me a TON extra to get into a situation like that.. Think coaching the Oilers money)

Flames buying ECHL Stockton Thunder to move AHL affiliate
I looked at the arena and it looks pretty nice. It is too bad it is located in one of the most dangerous cities in the U.S.
Maybe Burke and company want to try to help resurrect the community with the presence of the hockey team?? Maybe help clean up the community a little bit with community events and activities.
I don't know, this is hard to fathom. I wonder if the players safety has been discussed and what the flames owners think about this. I wonder if we might hear from some of the players on this topic. I like the idea of a west coast AHL division but I don't really like the location the flames have picked.

As a non meth user, I don't have any reason to go near Stocktonm but if the Flames name the Team "The Stockton Scorch" you can be damn sure I'll make at least one game.

How many time has the Farm been moved in the last 10 -15 years? What an absolute joke the AHL is. For this reason alone, I just can't get into following the league. I don't know what team is where and who belongs to who... Well I have an idea but its just not worth the time to follow...
Considering there is an NHL team in Detroit, I'm sure our players will be just fine in Stockton, California.
Heck, Stockton has 44% less violent crime than Detroit, and a much nicer climate.
Detroit also has some very nice suburbs where all the NHL players live. Does Stockton have nice suburbs and can guys on AHL salaries afford to live there?

Me thinks a few posters here need to get out and travel a little bit. Every city on the planet has good areas and bad areas. And the bad areas, which dominate the crime stats, don't define an entire urban area. I have never visited Stockton but I am sure an AHL hockey player would have no problem living away from the gangs and meth addicts. And I am sure that an AHL hockey player, with a salary above the US median, will be able to find a nice safe and affordable condo to rent in one of likely a zillian such complexes around the city. Stockton may well be a dump--like I said I have never been there and the Central Valley of CA does have some crappy cities--but the characterization here of the scary American city is pretty comical.
