Oh ok just what I saw on Global, CTV and CNN. Information moves fast. Usually it's incorrect.

And I just watched The National and they showed a White House spokesperson saying that North Korea is involved and connected.

Let's not forget that 12 people were killed and 70 wounded at a Colorado showing of "The Dark Knight Rises" and that movie wasn't pulled from theaters.
Pulling "The Interview" over security concerns is total BS.

If it wasn't pulled, would the box office suffer from people too afraid to go to theatres?
And on another note, if North Korea made a movie about the attempted assassination of Obama, how would America react?

Never said that. T.v is on time constraints. You have a certain amount of time to really hype up the story.

Unfortunately, this is something that America has accepted as a possibility every day. Anything revolving guns doesn't scare them as much as someone threatening a 9/11 style attack.

So many of you aren't aware of what's going on here.
Sony may have pulled the film, but it was only after exhibitors refused to open it. All the major theatre companies decided to refuse to open the film over safety concerns with regard to their employees and customers.
You can think that's stupid all you want, but that shooting when the Dark Knight opened did effect the opening weekend for that movie with some people electing to stay away.
If the release of the Interview went through amidst threats to theatres (no matter how real or hollow those threats are) attendance over the holidays would drop.
That is one of the busiest times of year for the box office, and 2014 is already one of the worst years for ticket sales in nearly a decade.
Easy to say the theatres are in the wrong for refusing to play this movie, but at the end of the day they don't want to see their numbers suffer at a vital time of year in what's already been a dismal year.
It was an easy decision for them to make.

Historically Hollywood and corporations have had way more backbone than this and it sets a pathetic precedence. It really shows that they really only care about liability and the bottom line.
George RR Martin has a good take on this.
Quote:
The level of corporate cowardice here astonishes me. It's a good thing these guys weren't around when Charlie Chaplin made THE GREAT DICTATOR. If Kim Jong-Un scares them, Adolf Hitler would have had them ####ting in their smallclothes

I think there is more to this than North Korea. Why would they want to start a war over a movie? If they pulled a 9-11 they don't think the USA would drop a bunch of freedom on them?
I think Sony has something to hide that hasn't been leaked, and they're really scared that it'll get out. When they were first hacked the demands were for money, and had nothing to do with the film.

North Korea has threatened the States over a 100 times this year. They use everything as an excuse.
Edit: also don't know whether or not a poster with the "Great Leader" as a profile pic is one I can take seriously. It was not Sony saying its NK but The American government saying they are "Centrally" involved.

Disappointed with the decision not to release the flick but not surprised. Now that the "threat" is out there the doors would have been wide open for lawsuits should anything have actually happened (not that I would have agreed with that).
Probably not a risk they wanted to take.

Sony did pull it, though I did hear the thing about the theaters as well. Which makes sense.
However, it is a dangerous precedent to set. The studios should have talked to the government first.
North Korea is denying it and actually making a NEW threat saying that if there isn't a joint investigation with US intelligence services (to clean their good name I imagine) there will be 'grave consequences'. Lol.
But US intelligence did and is still saying it was NK hackers. This as of 4:25 Sat morning. So yeah, the only one suggesting it's a prank (or still suggesting it is) is North Korea.
Yeah, NK doesn't want a war of course, but this IS what they do. They raise a stink whenever and for whatever reason they want. And of course anything against the Great Leader, is going to piss off the family. They have no rooting to the real world anymore, especially after daddy died. I'm sure part of Kim Jun-Un really does believe he's a god walking among mortals.
The whole part of this that makes no sense to me is North Korea has never proven to be a real terrorist threat. They don't export their ideology. You never hear of someone blowing themselves up for the great state of North Korea.
If it was the theater companies that were worried and pulled support, they were dumb to do it. At this point, it's probably a lot of good publicity. I really can't see people staying away because of it and I REALLY can't see any attacks actually happening.

Just for your second comment, as I replied to the first in my first post, I can't see it making any waves at all except for a very small butthurt group that might react with, 'Derp, how dare dey say dat bout Murica?' Course, that type of population probably doesn't like Obama anyway, so maybe even they might like it. It would not be a problem at all. And that's assuming they could even come up with a film that would even make it over here and be even a tiny bit interesting.

Like Obama said in that clip, this is likely more a liability issue than a fear issue. If something did happen in a theatre showing this movie and Sony had received threats ahead of time there's no doubt there'd be a class action lawsuit against them.

You don't think politicians are "owned" by big donors?
Out of these 100s of yearly threats vs the U.S. how many did N. Korea follow through on? Why should they believe this one would suddenly be the DPRK 9-11?
Because my avatar is a pic of Kim I'm a sympathizer? Lmao.
