Arnold's stats also don't show face-off's won and defensive maturity. Arnold may never score 50 goals, but he might just be that guy you put out for every important face-off and when you are on the wrong side of a 5 on 3 because he's got it covered.
I almost want to toss around a Rod Brind'Amour comparison.

Ryan freakin Culkin, man. 13 points in 20 games. Never expected those kind of numbers in his first AHL season, but it's certainly great to see that he has obviously adapted well to the pro game!

I don't think he quite has the offense of Brind'Amour, but he's not bad at all. If you put him with offensive players, he will contribute. Could be a great 3rd line center down the road.

Kerr was talking on the radio today about them wanting to bring up Culkin at some point this year to get this feet wet (Wotherspoon being a guy they'd call up to keep up)

Not that it's a bad problem to have, but I think we've got too many depth center men. Backlund, Granlund, Jooris, Arnold, Reinhart, Knight and you could add Colborne and Bouma, though they are being used as wingers

If he even gets close to Brind'Amour he'll be a hugely valuable player.
The Flames have a ton of centers but they really need someone to drive that faceoff %. I think faceoffs is one of the main reasons why we're a "low possession" club

That's the problem with having about 20 forwards that are looking to become NHL players at the moment. Not enough room for them all. The best thing to do would be to trade off veterans/NHL guys with a track record for an area of need. Say like Backlund + Glencross for a top 4 defenseman (spitballing ideas, not specifically those two for that return)
Using players that have max value from the depth guys in trades should be the mantra because you'll get the best return. Trading a guy like Jooris won't return you anything with him only having 30 games of NHL experience. Backlund will, Reinhart will on a lesser level.
It's like the Flames have received their entire 2 decades worth of draft talent from 1988 to 2008 since 08. Just so much awesome that it's difficult to know what to do with it all.

Incorrect. The Flames are actually quite decent off of a lost faceoff. Its open play that they struggle at possession.

I'm actually kind of keen on seeing a ???/Arnold/Bouma line in the future. I think they could easily build a great 4th line with their defensive acumen and Bouma's relentless effort.
It probably makes sense as one step for the franchise in on a rebuild...Stajan gives way to Arnold.

Fair enough. I forgot that earlier on Brind'Amour was a huge point scorer. Plus he was a Flyer and I hate the Flyers so never followed the team that close. When I was thinking Rod, I was thinking more how you put him out in any defensive face-off position and you knew he was going to win it. He was reliable.
There's another guy whose probably a better comparison for faceoffs and points, however I can't think of his name. He played for Phoenix and Edmonton most recently and was a guy you pick up in the hockey pool just to purely win faceoffs. 3rd line guy, basically out there for every situation. Driving me nuts that I can't remember his name. Spent most of last night and this morning coming up with it and I can't. It's going to drive me nuts.
Edit: Not Gagne. I know it's not Gagne.
