This thread give me the image of someone going, "OMG everyone, don't panic." while holding back tears.

Expectations have different types. Depends which one you speak of when comparing to what we expected preseason:

Standings - exceeded
Hope/entertainment - probably exceeded
Rebuild status - probably exceeded
Corsi/Fenwick - Did we even have one?
Individual stats/performance - Which guy were you watching? Depends

The problem perhaps are those that move the goal posts after we hit certain milestones. Compared to preseason expectations, we are fine and still great. Compared to new "moved goal posts" expectations, of course we're doing bad. If we don't put unrealistic expectations out there and perhaps sprinkle in a bit of humble musing rather than starting fights with other teams for no reason, exception of course for Edmonton.

Let's refresh. Based on preseason, anything better than bottom 3 is technically exceeding expectations. The most optimistic views were 20-25th. Just because we move goal posts to playoffs doesn't mean it happens. That being said, doesn't mean we can't hope for playoffs either, but no need to go nuts when we go on a skid.

Stop and smell the roses.

I don't think anyone can honestly say anyone has failed to meet or exceed expectations other than maybe Sven, Seto and Bollig.

You could argue that Glencross, Byron and Bouma are as advertised. Colborne/Stajan/Raymond - too small of a sample for me.

The ones who've exceeded? Jones IMO has been better than expected. JG has been better than I hoped. Monahan has developed quicker. Brodie is way better than I hoped. Gio is even better than last year. And IMO Granlund and Jooris were found money. Wideman and Russell - better than expected.

The bottom D are crap, but that's what I expected.

I agree with you GioforPM. I honestly can't think of a truly consistent whipping boy/goat this season. But again, let's not forget that Gio has not left all other Norris candidates in the dust and isn't guaranteed the Selke and Art Ross and Hart. Therefore below expectations. Filip Forsberg and all other rookie candidates have not fallen to surprising injuries to allow JG to be 1st in rankings for the Calder and for us to make fun of all the other teams for their injured players. Again, below expectations. Ramo and Hiller aren't fighting for the Vezina and Jennings. This is bull. Hartley hasn't won the Jack Adams. The fact the awards haven't been given yet is irrelevant. Complete and utter terrible performance.

Did I forget to mention our entire roster isn't in the top 30 league wise for points and we're not #1 in both Corsi and Fenwick? Seriously, they're millionaires paid to play. This is pure BS.

It's an area we look at.

I haven't seen us suck this bad in a long time. I totally understand that sometimes, our score is lower than the other team, but losing a game is unacceptable! Edmonton stink does not beat out this terrible stink we have from this season's colossal collapse.
