Finally finished it (with the help of older nvidia drivers). It's very good but still my least favorite Dragon Age game.
The best part is the map design which is far superior to the previous games. The characters are interesting enough but I felt that you don't really get to know them as well as in the previous games. Seemed more distant and less personal, less to find out, less to draw from as a player. I cared less about these characters than in previous games.
Similarly, I found it harder to project personality into the my own character. Left a slightly bland taste.
Hawke's role was disappointing and the issue of the character creation tool not matching what ends up in the game engine made it impossible to get a good visual approximation of my character in DA2. Sounded like they're using Hawke to set up events in the next games though.
Story is okay but not memorable. Difficult to maintain narrative momentum when there are so many maps to explore. The most interesting turn of events occurs after the credits. Right now it kind of feels like they made this massive game to set up more interesting events that will happen in the future.
I have almost 100 hrs in and yet to unlock "What Pride Has Wrought" being almost lvl 22, I would think there isn't much left for the story arc. I got tired of shard collecting but have almost completed everything else, need to kill 5 more dragons for the achievement. I feel confident once again in Bioware's abilities to make a decent game, I can't wait for any DLC they may have for Inquisition, and I'm looking forward to the next Mass Effect.
Well I killed all the dragons but didn't get the achievement. Shows 10/10 in the game though. It's bugged.
Upgrading the resistance potions and using the right ones against specific dragons might be a good tip for those who have trouble with them. Also, have Vivienne's healing ulti spell juiced up for the fight. Healing mist grenade revives if it's fully upgraded. Really the dragon fights are all about being able to stay alive long enough.
Don't want to disappoint you, but Vivienne is unromancable. I went the Cassandra route with my Qunari warrior since she's down with me being a total hardass that hates magic
Sadly Cassandra is only romanceable by male characters. This is truly tragic as there has never in the history of video games been a character in more dire need of womanly love.
The Following User Says Thank You to Henry Fool For This Useful Post:
Did anyone find all of the stuff in the Winter Palace? I tried, and got maybe 70-75% of the coins and intell. I also couldn't find all the Halla statues, but was wondering... There are two doors side by side (in the royal wing?) That look to require 4 statues each. Can you open both, or just one?

You can't open all of the Halla doors. The two you mention both contain a high quality random chest (meaning it doesn't matter which one you choose), but if you want to get all of the blackmail material for the 3 leaders you can't open either

Ha ha so true. I figured of all the women that would be open to a same sex romance it would be her and tried romancing her with my female mage but it's a no go.
I'm really loving this game. Just so much to do and so many areas to adventure. I will say the dragons battles are super tough and it can be a daunting task managing all the characters and keeping them fitted with upgraded armour and weapons. It's up there for my 2014 GOTY.
I have never, ever been a rogue in an RPG. Ever. I always mean to try but they always seem to be the weakest class against strong enemies in RPG's.
Your position is kind of ironic, given that rogues have been the most powerful class in every Dragon Age game so far. They're a little more balanced this time around than in DA2 where they were invincible killing machines, but even so no other class can do this:
I went the dual-wield path instead of archer which gives you some incredibly powerful skills that do very high flanking damage. And with stealth plus a tempest ability that freezes time, I can kill an entire group of enemies before they even have a chance to react. The only class I've played that can get close to a rogue's killing power is a two-handed reaver, but they're more sustained damage vs. insane burst
No. Nooo.... My save file corrupted. I put in about 55ish hours, killed 5 dragons, and got to level 17. And its gone forever. The auto save and regular save are screwed. I'm so sad...
I suppose now I have to restart. I don't know if I want to make a mage (Knight Enchanter) or rogue (Tempest or assassin?) Help me decide CP. Or should I rock a Reaver? Sell the points for me, boys. I'm ever so indecisive.

Knight Enchanter if you want to be invincible but with lower damage, Reaver if you want to smash everything in the face, and Rogue if you want more strategic fights where you stab enemies in the back
I like doing damage but I was already a warrior (Champion) so I think I'll go rogue. And in doing so, I'll make a Tempest because I love 1000 cuts. I think. I didn't use Cole much. Are assassins any good?

Yes, assassins are very powerful as well. Hidden Blades and Mark of Death are two of the most powerful regular skills in the game, and it has some very good passive skills to boost your stealth
Rogues have been the dps kings and queens in Dragon Age. Don't know if that's different in Inquisition.
Overall the mages have been the most powerful class - and probably still are in many ways - but limiting the characters to 8 skills is big indirect nerf. The two big things the mages have in Inquisition are mobility which is ridiculously good with the phase jump skill and the barrier spell. Those and the way mana works make the mage experience very different in Inquisition.
There are probably some sneakily OP spells there. Like dispel is a great spell that some people might not carry. A low cooldown area purge with combo detonation and a damage increase buff, very powerful but easy to forget. At the same time some of the spells need to be reworked to make more sense.

I thought that happened to me once, but when I re-started later, the file was back.
I had my game go all weird when the right hand stick for looking around stopped working so your character would only look ahead. I restarted and it was still like that. I fixed it by clearing the XB1 cache.

Knight Enchanter is the best tank in the game, once you have that tree filled out you simply won't die. But their damage is pretty low so that's dissuaded me from going too far with one. Rift Mage is the best DPS option, but you still won't outdamage a rogue and you're very squishy (though they do get the best AOE attack in the game). In every DA game mages have been the best support characters, but I've never enjoyed trying to make a primary character out of one

Inquisition is the first DA game I played through with a mage but the mages really dominate the previous games if you use even half of their potential. Even in Inquisition having two mages in your group at all times makes the group click no matter who else is there.
In some ways the rogue really is the best class in DA2. Fighter tank is without doubt the worst one. I wish Inquisition's combat weren't so sluggish and unresponsive. Combat in DA2 was much more fun for me.
Another thing is that the combat is easier in Inquisition. Previously the encounters were more carefully designed, often as a kind of ambush, which could be frustrating at times but presented a challenge. In Inquisition you simply encounter a group of wandering or standing foes and usually you completely dictate when and how you approach them, MMO style.
Knight Enchanter is a great class especially with the mobility the phase sprint gives the mages. You can dart in and out, take an enemy in melee and then jump back. Playing this class really made the combat for me in Inquisition. Really was the only real fun I had in combat.
Rift mage didn't feel so great for me. Depends a lot on inflicting 'weakened' status and exploiting that, as I recall. I didn't like that, aside from the big fist spell which is probably great. I think the best combat spells are in the third tree, whatever it was called.
In the end there are lots of skills in all the classes that look really great - many of them look downright overpowered on paper - but still the combat didn't feel so smooth and fun for me in practice. It's neither tactical nor great action.
Just started trying this and started with a two handed warrior and so far I think I agree on the combat, it just feels clunky, like a poor MMO. I can't move while I'm attacking to follow a mob???
I may switch to a range class for this reason alone.
