Wasnt sure about Hartley when he was first hired but he has been really impressive so far. He has definitely earned an extension and seems like the perfect coach for the current stage of the rebuild with so many young kids around. Hopefully the team keeps buying in and he has a long career here.

When was the last time CP wanted to re-sign a coach? I feel like this is the first time in recent memory.

I'm really happy they're working on a deal. I don't think he'd last too long on the open market if his contract would expire.
I have always liked Hartley as a coach. I thought he was always good with young players and stars because of Colorado and Atlanta to a lesser extent, but I didn't know he'd be so good with the quotes and the media. From what I understand he was a commentator in Quebec and once he saw the working side of the media he became more engaging.
He's done a great job with the Flames so far, but I'd say his trolling of Tortorella was a masterpiece. The Flames probably have had a winning record since then and Vancouver pretty much imploded for the rest of the season.
