Does Sled Island typically post a schedule for all the bands? Some smaller names I'd like to plan to see but they don't have a time/location posted for them. Is this coming?
The web-site and guide will soon fully list where and when all the bands are playing.
Some things we do know - the line-up for Olympic Plaza. Some bands have posted on their own sites and Facebook when they will be here.
Join us for another round of soon-to-be-legendary Calgary one-offs to find out what do you get when you throw 30 of Calgary's best-loved musicians in a room, have them draw names from a hat to form entirely new bands on the spot, and charge them with the task of writing and performing material that's less than 12 hours old! These bands are only available night-of—after that, you'll have to settle for the rumour mill ("they had two bassists?!") or blurry camera phone photos.
On Sunday, May 17th at the Palomino (LOOONG WEEKEND!), Sled Island is doing it again in the name of raising funds for the festival. Check out the list of incredible musicians taking part!
Thanks troutman. I have a pass already, how "early" should "early" be to ensure getting into some of these events? I see GYBE is playing a few shows, so I figured I'd try with my pass to get into the first one, and if I can't get in, go elsewhere to another show.
Here we go! The third annual, free, outdoor, all-ages East Village Block Party presented by Skullcandy returns on Thursday, June 25 from 4:00 - 10:00pm at the East Village RiverWalk Plaza.
The East Village Block Party (or EVBP for short) is perhaps the most danceable event at Sled Island! We’ve lined up dance-floor-rattling UK act TroyBoi, r&b and rap hotshot Tory Lanez, outré rapper/punk Mykki Blanco, trippy technological futurists Teengirl Fantasy and more. Thanks to party experts The Hifi Club for curating this special lineup.
The gig poster has always been one of the most direct and important visual manifestations of music; far more than an advertisement, an active participant in the development of musical communities and values. A vital part of the Sled Island experience since the inaugural year, the annual Sled Island poster pairs local artists with musicians playing the festival for the creation of limited edition hand silk-screened posters by Burnt Toast Studios!
Ex Hex is winding up the annual Sunday Pig Roast at Republik.

The Following User Says Thank You to troutman For This Useful Post:
Explanation on sold-out shows - only 30% of venues are sold as tickets. The remaining 70% goes to pass holders (plus passes get extra priority). Arriving early should get you in to most shows.
Two guys from Akron/Family are going to be playing Sled this year. They were one of my most anticipated acts of 2013.
Seth Olinsky is in Cy Dune playing right after David Dondero (3:30 Local 510 Parking Lot on Saturday) and also doing Band Dialogue 4 from 5-6 in Tompkins Park (the small park on 17th just west of Sloth). It sounds interesting. I'll probably catch a bit before heading to Godspeed.
Quote:
A multi-band happening composed by Seth Olinsky (Akron/Family, Cy Dune),
Band Dialogue is a massive composition, experiment and conversation that explores the sonics of many bands stretched out across a space playing simultaneously. It’s part orchestra, part installation. Continuing in the lineage of large-scale guitar and drum events by the likes of NYC composer Rhys Chatham and Osaka noise lords Boredoms, each version is adapted to the site and bands for something totally unique—bands radiate their individual glory while simultaneously expanding into one colossal sound.
The other member is Miles Cooper Seaton. He plays Wednesday 9:30 at Local 510.
Hopefully someone here cares about A/F and didn't know this.
Join us live every Wednesday night at 10:00pm at the Plaza Theater in Kensington - 1133 Kensington Road NW Calgary, AB. Adults only, admission by donation. Doors open at 9:30pm, show starts at 10:00pm.

Whether or not this will put a close on the Republik name once and for all or there might be a second resurrection down the road, Choy is uncertain, but certainly not willing to rule it out.
“Time will tell,” he says.
As to what will become of the building, itself, after the Republik leaves, both Choy and Northfield declined to comment, but sources confirm to the Herald that it will become a Mill Street Brewery brew pub and restaurant — a collaborative venture with Calgary’s Creative Restaurants Group, which is behind Bonterra Trattoria, Cibo and Loco Lou’s, among others.
