Ashasx's blind homer love for sven never ceases to amaze me. We all want the kid to succeed, but he absolutely gave up on every play tonight as soon as it got physical
And he wasn't even close to "pushing the play more than other flames"
You need to pump your breaks a little bit. There is no big conspiracy against Sven. His biggest enemy when it comes to playing time and success with the Calgary Flames is himself

*shakes head* I just don't get where all this vitriol is coming from.

Jesus Christ does every PGT thread have to turn into a Baertschi argument? Start a thread Ashasx and defend him at every turn there.
Only caught two periods and thought the game was even up until the fourth goal where we opened up and let our system go out the window.

Back that up. Because I watched the game and I didn't see that at all.

I honestly wouldn't have continued anything but I was baited…and stupidly I took the bait.
I can't wait until we trade Sven so we never have to talk about him again. Ugh.

Baertschi came out like a house on fire in the first and looked great. Tailed off in the 2nd and was less effective. Didn't get much ice time but did nothing in the 3rd. This is Sven's game. No consistency. He has to change that.

Monahan.
He's easily the best prospect Calgary has had since Phaneuf, but he might be the best prospect since Iginla. Dare I say, the best draft pick since Fleury.
The completeness of his game, his compete level, and his headiness are so impressive...I don't want to tread on the side of hyperbole in a 5-2 loss, but, Monahan is perhaps the best player of his draft class right now, that's how good the minutes are that he's playing for Calgary right now.
I love watching him play hockey. He's like the anti-thesis of Phaneuf. No flash, all substance.

Blind homer love?
Sven was great in the first period (his underlying numbers support this), but for some reason only got another 5 minutes after that.
I wasn't the only one who saw it. Dozens of people were praising his play in the GT thread.
Why is this blind homer love?
Is this worse than blind homer hate?

Hard to do anything when you're not give the chance.
A couple minutes on the PP over Setoguchi could be exactly what Baerstchi needs to get going.
Don't tell Hartley that though.

Its tough for your blind homer live for Baertschi to win against the blind homer love for Hartley. Stick with the cool kids. You get more thanks that way. And thanks are very cool.

There are quite a few people that badly want Baertschi to succeed and they will point out the simplest thing he does as being good. That's fine, but it doesn't mean he performed well in context. Sven's problem is he doesn't do those good things every shift, so having a good first period doesn't mean a hill of beans if he doesn't follow it up with a good second and a good third. You have to weigh performance as a whole, not just snippets here and there. Was there minor improvement? Yeah, he showed more jump in the first few shifts. Was it enough to call it a good performance? No, because he couldn't follow up those shifts when given opportunity down the line. The most important thing for Baertschi is to go out and play like his hair is on fire every time his name is called. Didn't happen tonight, no matter how badly you want to believe it did.

Sven was good tonight. He wasn't Sidney Crosby, but I don't know why some people are expecting him to be.
Again, the numbers support that he had a good game. That's something to build off of for a player who has received so little (none) praise over the last while.
So just as somebody can be excited and praise Gaudreau when he makes a good play, so can I with Baertschi.
Nobody should have a problem with this. He's a Calgary Flame. We are fans. This is how things work.

Some of you guys could really learn to use the ignore button... seriously. I have a guy on there that apparently is trying to bait me, but the ignore feature works like a charm.

I have rarely used it. I don't like to because I want to hope that reason and rational discussion will win out in the end.
Unfortunately today forced me to use it more than I wanted to. I feel like Leslie Knope in Pawnee.
