Like pretty much everyone has said, that would be a fantastic deal for the Flames - don't have to commit to 6-8 years in order to keep the cap hit down. That would be absolutely fantastic. Five years at between $4.5 and $5m would be the perfect deal.

(And likely far less that the AAV Schultz gets next year)

Everybody hush! Brodie's agent may be reading this thread and think he's worth a lot more.....

I personally think that TJ is not worth $4.5MM and we should only get him at that price if he's signing for 8 years

Remember 10 years ago when a 5 year deal was an insane length? Prior to 2003-2004 Regehr got a 5 year deal, which was almost unheard of at the time.

Anywho, 5 years, 4.5 give or take a season for Brodie is fantastic. Get the kid locked up, he's a keeper. It's amazing how under the radar he's flown the past seasons.

So true. I have a good friend from Ontario and even though I consider him to be a knowledgeable hockey guy he couldn't pick Brodie out of a lineup. However, I do think that the hockey media guys are starting to take notice and recognize that TJ is a star in the making.

5 years at 4.5 seems like some nice numbers. Id definitely be happy with that.

I can't find anything that I don't like about this contract.
Very soft AAV for what he brings
Good term

Good deal for the Flames.

A five year commitment from our biggest young star at the moment would be great for optics as well.

I don't really care about the dollar amount, $4.5 million averaged would be nice for us.

Brodie only broke out last season. We're five games into this season. League-wide impressions don't change on a dime.

6 years and $6 million a season. Oh wait, we aren't the Oilers.

Perfect deal. I did call 5x5 yesterday as the sweet spot and I'm glad that appears to be the case. Good for Brodie and good for the Flames. Glad they're going to lock him up with fair term.

If the Flames get Brodie locked in for a 4.5mil cap hit, we should all worship at Treliving's feet. You'd have to think that would be one of the best contracts in the league. I hope it's true.

Thanks, that's sweet of you to point out.

I was speaking to him as a Flames player and prospect though. During his entire time as a Flame prospect and players he's flown under the radar. 4th round pick, surprise out of camp, unassuming defensivemen. Doesn't have that booming shot that gets noticed or those big hits etc. Just quietly developed slowly but surely.

This will be a great cap hit for a young talent. Brodie and Gio are an awesome tandem.

4.5 sounds like grand larceny. Was expecting a back heavy 5 year @ 5.75 AAV.
