I have a Husky single stage in southern BC dry-moderate wet snow. We have typical snow falls of 3-4 inches and I have a large paved driveway. It takes 3hrs with a shovel, blower is 40 minutes. for 3 inches of snow.
I start down the middle and blow to each side and have a large area is 60 feet x 60 feet between the house and the shop. It will blow the snow over 8-10 feet and I just progress along towards the outside reblowing what piles up without much problem.
If it gets deeper, 4-6 inches, I have to do a second pass to clear the rows that spill off the sides.
Deeper than 6 inches and I clear in small patches and blow snow over onto what has been cleared. Takes 3-4 passes. Two hours the other morning to clear 8 inches off what would have taken 5hrs with a shovel.
Anything under an inch and I'll do it with shovel.
Get it done early in the day before it warms and gets wet and then the sun hits the blacktop and by mid afternoon, dry pavement.
Things to look for are handy controls so you are not bending and reaching every time you want to change the direction of the outlet. Electric start is nice but not necessary. Choke, prime, plug it in, press a button and vroom. Choke, prime and a quick pull still works at -15C.
When you are done let it sit and idle for a couple of minutes for any accumulated snow to melt off the machine. I grab my shovel and touch up around the shop door while it idles then use an old broom to brush off the snow/slush from the machine before putting it away.
That youtube clip of a single stage is very, very dry snow.
