I go down quite a bit to Lakeside (15 mins south of Kalispell). In fact I just shipped something to a friend so I need to go down. One thing to watch out for is Whitefish has tax, where the rest of Montana doesn't. Tamerack in Lakeside is awesome. But yeah, I wouldn't be shopping much with the value of the dollar.

Contrary to what some others have said, I would not go to Glacier Park this time of the year. The hiking trails will still be snow covered, or mud, there is no real "town" of any consequence to check out and of course the weather can quickly change. To me the best part of Glacier is the going to the sun road, which has many trailheads but this road doesn't normally open untill late May at the earliest. Unless you are going skiing or wanting to check out some of the pubs, the area does not have a lot happening in the winter.

Also the Bulldog Saloon in Whitefish accepts Canadian at par on drinks (and always has). They also have some really great pub food, it is worth stoping in there even if it is to just use the bathroom.

Stop in at Phyggs Deli in Columbia Falls and get a sandwich. Seriously the best.

With the FX being so poor, as previously mentioned, the only shopping you should do is picking up what you can't get in Canada...so like..Dr Pepper 10? haha.

Weird thing in that area is the Miracle of America Museum, in Polson, on the south side of the lake. Crazy guy collected everything he could get his hands on, and set it up fairly nicely in a crazy hoarder style museum. Actually, it was pretty fun when we went there last. He's got a tugboat, a small village, 50+ motorcycles, crazy political quotes everywhere, a replica viking ship, a replica lunar lander, a replica alien invasion.... pretty unique.

Easter weekend is dummy derby and brewfest in Whitefish, becoming a bit of a tradition with my group of friends - great time.

I feel like in the mid 90's it made sense as there were a lot of brands and stores in the US that weren't in Canada.
Now, though, we have most of the same stores and products available in Calgary.
In the mid 90.'s our family did this alot as well. Since the Internet became prevalent we use that to shop. Montana has some good places for scenery which makes it a better destination for camping than shopping.
