I have always enjoyed panels like Satellite Hotstove etc. I don't really care about where so and so grew up or what they like to do in their spare time.

Yeah I always try to tune into Hot stove lounge because hockey fans love rumours but any time they do a story on a player and the small town he grew up playing hockey I usually tune out just because the story is virtually the same for most Canadian players. Unless they had some remarkable story they are mostly generic and boring. I would rather see newsworthy discussions, rumours, or highlights from other games. For the most part a melding of TSN's intermission panel with the HNIC hot stove lounge.

So more vacuous and cliched fluff pieces featuring players away from the rink. I know nothing makes me connect more with a hockey player than watching him awkwardly make omelettes in his $250,000 kitchen while his trophy wife tries to pretend this happens every day.

I like it. You gotta sell your stars. Hockey's a bit too team-oriented for the new demographic sometimes.

The intermission is calgarypuck time for me. I used to like satellite hot stove but now I find most of the between periods stuff to be boring filler hosted by mostly annoying 'analysts'. Not sure how they can dumb it down anymore, it's already pretty dumb.

For the most part intermission is fastforward time for me. My PVR routine has worked pretty good the last couple of years. No time for commercials or SN filler.

A few years ago, I read an article comparing merchandise sales between the NHL and NBA. It said that in the previous year (probably 2009 or 2010), the NBA sold more Lebron James jerseys globally than the NHL sold in total for all players and all teams.

I also loved the hot stove lounge. Would rather watch this than see how so and so spent his childhood.

Maybe TSN will be approached by Sportsnet with a side deal: Give us some money and you can show some games...but Doug MacLean MUST be part of your tv broadcasts.

Knowing Sportsnet, "building our stars" also probably means more cringe-worthy commercials like the ones of Kerr and Simmer articulating their vast knowledge of the players and the game.
Either get real hockey insiders to discuss hockey news, or focus on explaining the game being aired.

I really only care about broadcast video quality. I long for the time NHL hockey has the same broadcast video quality as SNF or MNF.
As much as I like the Satellite HotStove, I'll just tune into CP or Fan960.
Who am I kidding... if it's Flames-related, I'll be watching.

As much as I have loathed Sportsnet's coverage of the Flames to date, and as worried as I am about how it will be going forward, I have to say that I think they really do a fantastic job with the Jays.
Buck and Pat are absolutely top notch and Jays fans are pretty fortunate in that regard. Then they break away and have additional analysis with Zaun. Love him or hate him, he is very insightful.
If their coverage of hockey could ever be as crisp and professional as the baseball coverage, I would be a happy camper.

Wow, stupid Rogers.
My sister works for CBC and has been working like a dog just to keep her job because of the cuts they're making in response to losing this deal to Rogers. And now Rogers is also cutting jobs because they realized they went full ###### for those broadcasting rights.
Unbelievable.

More national games on Rogers channels, so less games on Gamecentre Live (because they will be blacked out).

I really don't care for featurettes on players personal lives, as we come to like them for what they do within the profession and the game. It's hard to personally connect with these players when their lifestyles don't seem real to most viewers when it's lived on millions of dollars. I've grown up around money, but not that kind of money. Where they have vacation mansions and blonde modelesque trophy wives that are obviously just gouging their pockets. I mean, in their shoes, we'd all live the same, but how are we supposed to relate to stuff like that? I'd rather just not know those details and know them for their time spent around the rink and the game. Save the MTV cribs. Give me more hockey talk.
