Rumour? How about Derek Wills who announced AHL Hamilton Bulldogs heard he was a candidate. Even Cam Moon's name rumoured.
Heard similar. Maybe Peterson as well, though with the Stamps now owned by the Flames, and Peterson fairly shameless over the years in his disdain for the Stamps (or their fans), would be a tougher decision for whoever in the Flames brass would make that final decision (probably King?)
For me, the more relevant/interesting broadcast team decision is the TV pairing, as I listen to that 99.9% of the time when I'm not at the game. Rogers (though you never know with them) maybe waiting for the summer holiday season to be over before announcing anything major about any part of their new broadcast format, to get maximum PR/coverage for that.
Regardless of who gets hired, there will be many that hate it, and many that love it.
I HATED Loubo at first. Took me a while to get past his voice. However, his insights into the game made it interesting, and after getting used to his voice, he became my favorite in quite a long time. Ended up being very upset when he got let go. Would personally love him back.
Kerr I didn't like at all - maybe if he hung around for another year or two, I would have adjusted, though in this case it was doubtful. I just found he would be almost murmuring at times and then suddenly shouts into the mic when something developed. I want excitement in someone's voice, but that doesn't mean you have to change the volume of your voice so drastically.
Whomever the new guy is hired I will just listen to and give him time so I can adjust. Hopefully they will not hire someone I already dislike, but hopefully they do find interesting people that provide insight and call a good game. That is not easy to find it seems. Regardless of who gets hired, there will be upset people, and happy people. Just the way things like this works. Ed Whalen I absolutely loved (and so did most of the masses), but even there some people don't like him. Some people started complaining about Maher, who is in the HHOF. You just will not please everyone - I just hope they please me though
Moon is interesting. I thought of him immediately when I heard that Peter was retiring.
Can you imagine:
"Flames are still no good and will never win, there are no prospects in the cupboard, stay tuned for the intermission where I will take your calls and argue everything you say"
Hopefully they start their hire by avoiding another psychic for the TV broadcast. Wouldn't mind having Loubo back at all, as long as they encourage him to wait 5 seconds to make each call.
Not everyone's gonna agree on whoever the pbp is. It's equally stupid though how quickly people drag the conversation down when they feel they have to react to a post they don't like by making subtle attacks on the person's career. Sure, wolfman sounds pretty condescending in his remark, but why do you guys have to take the bait every. single. time. and then make yourself sound no better?
Some people are a little more opinionated (lol myself included), there will always be those sorts on here, but at least show that you're better by keeping the arguments civil.. or just not react at all, that works too.
I like him; wonder if Curle might've gotten the TV gig? Or is Rogers going to cover the Flames so well that we may as well have Bob Cole as our full-time guy?
