Col still needs to upgrade their D big time. Look at the elite teams around them, St Louis, Chicago, LA, Minny all have top level elite Dmen. Dallas has upgraded their roster, Anahiem to. Col in tough to make the playoffs this year, west just so tough.

I think it's a good destination. Too many free agents look backwards instead of forwards when picking a destination to play. Colorado has the pieces to emerge as a strong contender.

Except that this is a massively overrated hockey team that are going to pull a Toronto and drop 5 standings spots next year.

Looks like he gets to play with Ryan O'Reilly after all.

Three years? Some how I think Colorado is not going to like that contact in a year of two. Just a gut feeling but there none the less.

Didn't see that one coming.

Why would he have signed in vancouver? Doesn't make a lick of sense. Doubt there was any truth to the rumour.

Agreed. That d-corps looks very weak compared to LA, Boston, Chicago, etc. Colorado is a good young team, but they are a obvious step below the contenders. They will not win a cup in the next 3 years and this contract was about money IMO.

Iginla was on life support after the whole Pittsburgh/Boston thing, but signing with the Avalanche? Iginla is dead to me. I hope he doesn't experience anything but heartbreak the rest of career. It's going to annoy me to no end when they retire his jersey and having to think of the other three that soiled his legacy as Mr. Calgary Flame.

Colorado beat out Dallas, St. Louis, Chicago and Minnie last year for the division crown. They lost Stastny but added Iginla who had 5 more goals and 1 more point than Stastny last year. He was also a +34 while Stastny was a +9.

Their top 4 scorers were all aged 18-22. This means we can expect them to score even more goals and points this year than they did last year. Their top guys are just starting to get their momentum going. Really hard to judge a team like this right now.

Didn't Roy say something about getting an Iggy type player at his initiation news conference last summer?

I don't get the hate for those teams. Really, the only team I would have hated him for would be Vancouver.

This reminds me of Hossa signing with a young Hawks team.
Except Hossa was only 30 vs 37 and signed a 12 year deal didn't he?

They were division rivals for quite some time and they had quite the number of delta bravos on that team over the years. But mostly I hate Patrick Roy with the heat of 10,000 suns, and that hate extends to anyone he coaches or manages.

In tough to make the play-offs?

They may not be up there with the top teams in the West (Ana, LA, Chi, Stl) but they are clearly in that next group with Dallas, Minny and SJ.

Not sure who improved themselves enough from the non -play-off teams to be much of a threat and SJ sounds like they are going to take a step back.

Outside of Varlamov I don't see much reason for them to drop off. Full year of Duchene, MacKinnon getting better and Landeskog/Duchene/ROR all likely to improve or at least stay same.

Though a definite longer shot for Cup run as compared to Bruins, this could really be a great situation for Iggy - obviously with all that talented youth up front, he could be re-reinvigorated and be an outstanding mentor to all the Avs young lads. He might surpass last year's production.

Lol..congrats on the most extreme post in the thread. Colorado is fine and makes perfect sense for Iginla.
