Just to add, you can bet that as long as there are no deals the Flames know who each team is going to likely pick. To probably 95% certainty. I think back to last years draft and after talking to some people with NHL ties I knew a week before that Jones was going to Nashville and Tallon was going to bypass him. The top 4 were as predicted by the people i talked to. So if I knew then I'm sure Nashville knew. It is a small community and the Flames will know to some certainty who's going to be sitting there at 4 our of the Sams Ekblad and Draisaitl, and if they don't like that one guy that is likely to be left there only choice is to move up and number 2 seems like the smartest place to go to get the one they like the best.

So this commentary was in part rumors and in part speculation.

People want inside information and then rip guys apart when they provide it.

Tough crowd to please.
So is it insider information or is it "part rumour....part speculation"?

I said I don't put a lot of faith in Boomer. I actually like his show to be honest, but can't seem to recall a time when he has got a tip or insider information before another media person.

Can you point me to him breaking a story?

I can see the Flames moving to #2 to pick Ekblad or Reinhart. But I have a hard time seeing them moving up for Draisaitl or Bennett.

Ideal scenario is Florida picks a Sam, and Buffalo doesn't want a D-man, so they pick up another 2nd round pick, the Flames grab Ekblad, and Buffalo drafts the remaining Sam or Draisatl at 4.

Well, don't put words in my mouth. I didn't say anything about this upcoming season. However, we have some guys that are near ready and we have a opportunity to draft someone who is really close. This puts the Flames in a very welcomed position but a tough one none the less.
One will have to be moved sooner or later, like I said before.

I have doubts that Boomer has a lot of specific insight to what the Flames are thinking about individual players but I do think he knows enough Flames people and is around enough that he would know who is/isn't coming in for interviews, when the team is more busy around the dome/offices and when trade talks are in the works.
There is a big stretch between getting who the new GM is out a little early which effects the team in no way and leaking what the Flames are trying to do at the draft which would be a terrible thing for the club. If what Boomer reported was true and I am Brian Burke I would personally hunt him down and shove my foot as far up his ass as I could.

That the Flames have kicked tires looking to move up to #2 is no surprise.
They also have done so for the #1.
I have kicked many a tire in my day and come home with nothing more than being better informed. Flames are looking at the market IMO to better know what price a top 4 is going for.

I would like to see us with a #4 and another 1st rounder in top 10.

As mentioned, it depends on what happens with #1. Looks like most of the trading partners are going after a centre and likely Buffalo as well, so if that's the case yes either could drop, but either could be taken above us, and one of them will be by Edmonton. And if Ekblad is gone before 3, we won't have either of them.

So, if they're really interested in those guys in particular, it makes sense to try and get to #2.

What would be really great is getting to #2 without giving up #4, but that's unlikely.
Best case scenario for sure, walking out with two of the top four or lets say a Richie would be and outstanding draft by any accounts, but to get that we would probably have to give up assets no one wants to give up. Backlund I think for sure would be involved in a deal like that ( Sob, sniffle, face palm) however the end result has to dictate.

Or maybe they are spreading this rumour to further convince Edmonton to take him, leaving one of the Sams for us?
Burke said it was the time for lies....

He broke the Tanguay signing at the draft a couple years ago.

That's all I can think of ATM.

There aren't leaks out of the Flames organization at this time that they don't want out there.
Yours is a plausible scenario

Can we just resign ourselves to the fact that we will only know who the Flames are interested in drafting in about 36 hours time? All the rest is just speculation. You don't need to be angry about it.

Agreed. Of the top 4, Ekblad and Reinhart are probably the least likely to fall to #4. Draisaitl might be next on the list (if they truly believe Edmonton will take him at #3), which would leave Bennett. Either the Flames don't want to be stuck with Bennett, or they really want one of Ekblad or Reinhart.

Either way, I don't see a trade happening until after Florida makes their pick (unless Buffalo truly doesn't care who they get and are content with adding a second asset along with someone from the top 4).

I am for this. I have wanted him ever since I heard his name was Leon. It really does depend on the cost though of course.

The alternative could be picking Ritchie at 4th overall, so you have to consider that too.

in that shot i dont see any other prospects there... none with a name on their back anyway, could have just been slim pickings on who to take a picture of?

Well I am not sure what you are looking for then.

Boomer never claimed he was an insider like Mckenzie breaking stories all the time. Jiri never claimed Boomer was an insider he just pointed out he had sources inside the Flames organization.

Him knowing Trevelling was coming before others shows those sources and could easily be the same sources he found out that the Flames have interviewed Draisatl multiple times and that they were in talks to move up.
