Most people thought that Blysma was done, but I don't buy into this whole spite conspiracy theory given only two coaching jobs have went (Nashville and Washington). And if the Pens really prevented Washington from hiring Blysma that's not a bad move either. The Nashville job is the only job that the Pens might have prevented Blysma from getting.
Blysma is a considered a respected coach and I don't see anything wrong with leaving the choice up to the new GM. And they made the decision quickly as soon as the GM was hired.

I don't see how Rutherford not having talked to Blysma has any relevance. Rutherford has been in this league a long time and knows people. He doesn't have to talk to Blysma to form an impression of him, just like Burke didn't need to interview anyone else for him to know Treliving is his guy.
The most interesting part to me is that the Pens were talking contract terms with McGuire and McGuire wanted a 5 year contract. I guess the Penguins really didn't want to go beyond 3 years and chose to go in another direction.
