There is no doubt he is in a bad situation (partly because he has an owner that is dumb enough to give a back-up goalie with no experience a GM job) but what has he done to indicate that he is average?

He has made at best mediocre to bad FA signings, his draft picks outside of a no-brainer Tavares have been pretty blah, his trades (especially Vanek) suck.

For the record, the Islanders did offer Boyle a 2 yr deal. Not sure on the $, but he's likely to make upwards of $5 mil per as a ufa.
