I wonder if cult leaders hang outside the Oilers front office as well? If they want to find young people at their wits end, who've become disillusioned with their lives, and need a drastic change of pace then playing for the Oilers for a few years will do that to you.

The same with the Armed Forces, they probably have a post set up outside as well. Some of them would actually prefer being shot at for a few years rather than playing for that joke of an organization. At least they wouldn't get shot at 61 times in a day in Afghanistan.

the funny thing is that this equates to a horcoff for 7th round pick, as such, the oilers STILL won that trade haha.

guy was a 5th round pick, was anyone expecting him to become an integral part of the oilers defense??

Horcoff was great in Dallas this year, and apparently worked wonders in the lockerroom. I think they were more than satisfied with the acquisition, as his contract helped them reach the cap-floor, without moving any real assets.

Now to a certain point all fan bases get hot n' bothered about the shiny new draftees - but no fan base has the arrogant optimism that Oil fans do.

Here's a quick laundry list of the guys we heard a ton about in recent years:
- Dragon Umicevic
- Taylor Chorney
- Danny Syvret
- Chris Vandevelde
- Vyachaslev Truhko
- Frederik Pettersson
- Alex Bumagin
- Linus Omark
- Teemu Hartikanenen (sic)
- Toni Rajala
- Oliver Roy
- Anton Lander
- Tyler Bunz
- Ryan Martindale
- Curtis Hamilton
- Tobias Rieder
- Martin Gernat
- Samu Perhonen

Those are all non 1st round guys that I bet many have heard about. Not b/c they are good but because they were the latest over-hyped Oiler draftee.

Or to sum up - Edmonton is no good.

"Interesting comments to say the least. It seems to me that a strong argument can be made for the Flames having among the best prospects in net.

Goalies: Lalande, Krahn, Keetley, Spratt (he eats no fat), McElhinney, Dynamite."

You claimed they were among the best bunch of goalie prospects in the NHL and every single one busted.

Fan bases are all the same. Every fan base has those that are optimistic and those who aren't.

You obviously fall into the optimistic category. Its funny that you take offence to the optimistic fans of another fan base when you fall into that category yourself.

There's a difference between goalie prospects and forwards and defensemen.

95% of goalies are busts.

90% of any player type drafted 3rd round or later are busts. That's the nature of the draft.

The Oilers have a habit of hyping their no name prospects.

They can't even get it right with 3 first overall picks. Those are 3 duds at first overall.

Can't blame Oiler fans for eating up Lowe's no one in hockey management has more cups than me sell job. Maybe when he gets fired he can be the best selling used car salesmen in Edmonton since Edmontonians already buy his garbage.

The hype machine in Edmonton is among the best in the league because there is hope when there should ne fear. The worst is yet to come.

Hall isn't a dud. Not the smartest or best player around, but he can generate some offense. RNH still has his moments, even if he is frail. Yakupov, well, not a big fan but I guess we'll see. I don't see him doing a heck of a lot in the future.

The problem for the Oilers is their overall drafting besides the first overall picks. They still had high 2nd and 3rd round picks, and some of those guys should be making some serious noise. But if you look at their prospect pool it's kinda sad.

I agree with OS that every fan base hypes their prospects more than they probably should. The issue for the Oilers is that they have been so bad for so long, and had so many high picks in the early rounds that some of those players should be pushing that team forward. But they are getting worse. That's why they get less leeway than other organizations.

You do know that Taylor Hall put up 80 points this season right? Landeskog is better than RNH right now but the Oilers do need a center and can't of too early to tell the 2012 draft. I think Yakupov had the sophomore jinx and will be better (maybe not a guy you can win with but better).

Yakupov to me is in Daigle territory........some talent, but more hype than anything. And to think they could have had Murray or traded down for Trouba. Yikes. Bet they wish they could have a mulligan on that one.

McElhinney isn't a bust. He's not great but he's in the NHL. Dynamite IMO is too young to write off. He's a starter in the Finnish league and had a good year. The team he's playing for is moving to the KHL so we'll see what happens. Lalande is playing in the KHL and for the Belarus national team. Injuries did in Krahn. Goalies are so unpredictable, it's hard to get a handle on their future but at the time they looked pretty good.
