Me too. I actually thought that he was one of their better playoff performers this year. I guess that seems to beg the question, are we looking through rose-coloured glasses or are they? Is Iginla an easy scapegoat because he was just a rental-type player?
I was going through a couple of those threads just to see where Boston fans heads were at and a lot of them want to get rid of Marchand, while some want to see Chara gone. Maybe they'll get some clarity in a few days.
I'll be the first to admit I didn't watch many Boston games this season. Other than the playoffs, I don't know if I even watched a Bruins game, minus taking on Calgary.

Iggy turns 37 this summer.. so realistically I think he has maybe 5? seasons left.
He has always been a fitness nut so that should carry him into his early 40's..
I think he gives Boston another chance, then maybe next season if they exit early again he starts to semi panic and look around again. LA is a very likely destination.
The Bruin fan reaction doesn't surprise me at all, granted it is a fairly small sample size (maybe 20ish fans total), but the general consensus I got from their group before, during and after the game I saw in March they were very under appreciated of Iginla's talents. They felt his production was just a result of playing with guys like Lucic and Krejci. Many a "frick put me out there with those two and I will score 30 goals as well!" comments were made by numerous people.
Iggy doesn't hear that though, he just wants his Cup and a few angry fanbois on the interwebs won't spoil that.

He's not going anywhere, though if I wanted to throw a dark horse candidate out there I'd throw Tampa Bay. Stays in the East, gets to enjoy warm weather, gets to play with the 2nd best player in the league, a young team on the rise that needs a bit more veteran leadership. Would be a great fit in my opinion.
But he's staying in Boston. He was by far their best player last night, he's a great fit and they are still in win now mode. I'll be very surprised if they don't re-sign him.

Fan expectations will always be tied to salary now.
Regardless where he signs, and I expect it will be Boston, if he does so for 3-4 million, it makes a big difference compared to 6.

Or maybe he just mails it in and goes to Florida. No pressure, nice weather.
Some others have mentioned St. Louis. I think that one really makes sense, as does staying in Boston..
It's hard these days to pick the right team considering the relative parity. Boston seems to have that beat, but it still didn't work out.
I can see Anaheim as well having an interest.

CapGeek @capgeek
So it's Iginla's bonuses, plus any earned by Krug, Hamilton and others, that should come directly off the #Bruins 2014-15 cap.
Bruins going into next season with ~$4 million less cap space than other teams because of performance bonuses pushed them over this year's salary cap

Dumb question, but if Iginla were traded today, would that $4M be transferred or does Boston still have to pay it?

It'll be interesting to see.
He did well in Boston, I could see him trying again.
That being said however, if Chicago wins the cup again does he go for it? What about LA?

Not to derail the thread, but Thornton's "antics" are hilarious in my books. I think its pathetic that a squirt with a water bottle is a fineable offence these days. Sure, during play I can understand. But the Lundqvist fine was ridiculous.

He'll probably go to Anaheim, LA, or Chicago. Whichever wins the cup for around 3.5-4. He won't go back with Boston, he wants a cup and Boston is on the downswing with their core.

Not that I disagree about where Iggy will go, but Boston's core on the downswing?
Unless you think Boston's core begins and ends with Chara, then I don't see how that is possible. Everry other key member of their core is under 30 years old and in their prime.
The average age of their top ten scorers this season is 27.6......and that includes Chara and Iggy.
Without Iggy and Chara, the average age of the other 8 guys is 25.5
....and their Vezina finalist goalie is only 26.

Marchand, Lucic, Krecji, Chara all were pretty bad in the playoffs. Yeah they are great in regular season but they can't win in the playoffs anymore imo. Iginla probably recognizes that. My guess is the whole thing left him a little sour towards going back there.

Well, I don't think the core begins and ends with Chara, that's an obvious overstatement, but he is a pretty huge part, one might say was an underrated part.
It's less about age and more about performance. Boston's big name players weren't very good this playoffs, Lucic's stats obviously getting a serious look. And just based on past success they seem to be taking a step back each year. I know that's a rather elementary way of looking at it, and there's nowhere to go but down once you win the cup, but they really should have done better this year.
I'm not saying they're done, but they might need a little retooling to find that magic/spark again.
Or I could be full of crap, the playoffs are a pretty big hill, can't be awesome all the time. Just how it looks right now I guess.

If I were a Boston fan I'd be most disappointed in Marchand. He plays top 6 minutes and went 12 games without a goal. Can't have that on a team that relies pretty heavily on scoring by committee. His play was sloppy, lots of turnovers in the neutral zone, wasn't over physical. He was more worried about getting in cheap shots between whistles. They needed him to be a lot better.
