I don't think anyone would be complaining if it was that Dion.
I dunno, I think that open ice hitting dmen have gone the way of the dinosaur. The most successful defense today are either great skaters, have good hockey iq and positioning or are good at rubbing people out along the boards to slow down the play.

I'd bring him back on the cheap. I think he'd be real good as a 2nd pairing, behind TJ and Gio. Maybe ... Clarkson and phaneuf for wideman and a 2nd or 3rd?
With the management group we have, I don't see him coming over. Shoving him into the Edmonton locker room also seems like a great way to scratch half the players effort wise. Great choice for a scapegoat for Edmonton though if they took him. Sending him to Vancouver though... I shudder to think what type of dirty play he will pick up if he lands there.
On a side note, I stumbled across an old thread. Someone was saying that McGrattan knew Phaneuf somewhat well during his time with the Flames?
We already have a defensively shaky, offensive defenseman with a 1st PP quality shot that goes through stretches without hitting the net.
Cheaper and RH as well.
Moving out Wideman for Phaneuf even if we pay a realistically cheap price doesn't really improve our team. Phaneuf is better than Wideman but the caphit and more importantly, length of the contract makes it detriment to work around in the future for the limited benefits.

no, please no. anything but that. Id rather just throw money into a fire

Dion Phaneuf is no longer that player. I imagine he will never ever return to this form again either. He's an average dman in his own zone and an average to above average point man on offense, though he just can't get pucks on net like he used to.
boy, with dion on the block, as well as spezza, battle of ontario could be a lot different next year.

Jesus no. That might well be the worst trade proposal in Calgarypuck history.
We take on two declining players with massively overvalued contracts for very long term and pay them a decent draft pick to do so? Your proposal would handcuff the organization for nearly a decade.

Has to be a Leafs fan.

Please, he's still a major upgrade on Petry, Ference and Schultz. If Edmonton picked up Dion the Battle of Alberta might be something worth tuning in for again.

Sportscaster: Phaneuf cranks one into a Flames player! The player goes down! Giordano gets the puck, he's going back. He cranks one into an Oiler's player! He goes down too! Rebound to Monahan! He's knocked down! Giordano recovers! He shoots! Blocked by an Oiler's player and rolls out of the zone. Line change for Calgary... McGrattan Uproots an Oiler's player and sends him flying into the captain, Taylor Hall!
One can hope, eh? :P
Though I would actually be interested in seeing Phaneuf develop further under veterans (ie: Detroit).
