I hate the Canucks but I kind of like this move. I like that there are several teams in the NHL been targeting fresh faces as their GM or President in the last few years. Dallas hired Jim Nill last season, Steve Yzerman in Tampa, Calgary hiring Treliving, now Canucks with Benning GM and Trevor Linden as President, Ron Francis in Carolina, Toronto hiring Brendan Shanahan as President. Ron Hextall as Flyers GM and I am pretty sure Pittsburgh might be targeting someone new as well like Mike Futa from LA. I know LA Kings said Futa is not going anywhere but you never know. Maybe they are just waiting until after Conference Finals or even the Stanley Cup Finals. Washington is still looking for a GM as well. Even Oilers hiring McTavish as GM last season was not a bad move. Only problem was KLowe's big ego and bragging was so contagious that McT started talking like him by the middle of the season.
Benning probably brought some good players to his team as a scout but he might not have the same success as when he start working as a GM. At least that's what I am hoping for.
