I know the Hon family, both Dominic (father) and Nicholas (son). Dominic is often mentioned as the wealthiest Chinese person living in Calgary. He collects expensive cars and lives (or lived) in a huge house on an "island" in McKenzie Lake. He bought Jager Homes for Nicholas along with Jager's land holdings in Evergreen. He also purchased the balance of Arriva site from Torode's bancruptcy proceedings. I heard that he was going to build his palace next to the French immersion School in Courgar Ridge but I guess that didn't work and he decided to move outside the CIty limits.

Agreed. Calgary tends to preserve the ugliest old buildings just because they are old and without any respect for their actual architectural merits.

Was on 22 the other day and it didn't look like the exterior had changed that much. Possibly been working on the interior. My guess is they plan on finishing this summer.

Can't believe the house is only valued at $3 million, but I guess it's not the most prime location.

Can't believe it's only worth $3 million - set on 80 acres.
Surely it's gotta be worth more than $3M on land value alone?

No kidding, you think that location would have caused a massive bidding war between the Taber Corn crowd and the highway side "fresh" seafood crews!
I'm sure it's listed as $3mil as it's being built by their own company so they are probably doing it at cost for tax/permit reasons.

every time i have driven by this place on the weekend, i have noted that there is someone sitting there is a smaller suv - i assume this is some type of secruity to prevent the lookie-lous form getting close to this house.
personally, i would ahve picked anotehr piece of property to build on and gone a little smaller myself - but that is just me.
it would be neat to see inside. i'd also like to know how long the construction phase is expected to last as it seems there is still a lot of work to do on the exterior
